As a head coach, his highest ranked win since being hired at SMU in 2015 was against Houston (ranked #57) in 2016.

I like this hire. A lot.
I encourage folks to look past the 14-22. There is a LOT to like about Morris. I don't have a crystal ball, but I believe he had SMU poised to have a 10-2, 11-1 type season next year and be THE hot coach on the market. Maybe we nabbed him a year early.

I do like him a lot. Originally he was my #1 choice but I think I was influenced by the hype and he fell off the top of my wishlist in later editions.
Its his deep ties to Texas players - he coached at 5 schools - that I like the most and second his offense that he runs.

I like the basic idea, an unproven guy, but I think Chad Morris is a bit old. He has Texas recruiting connections, but Texas recruiting is overrated as frick. TEXAS can't even crack .500 anymore with Texas recruits. Florida and that area is a lot more fertile ground.
A great DC will help, but anyone good enough to matter will be leaving to find their own job within a couple of years.
I suspect we'll be back in this position in 5 years.
