They will never build a Beltway. The best any of us will see for the next 50 years is an 8 lane I-49

They are just now studying expanding Highway 112. The first shovel is 20 years away on that project, and that road already exists.
It took 30 years to build I-49. That was in a much more bulldozer friendly and Senate pork spending friendly era

I'm a solid hour to hour fifteen from the Home Office on good days.
Even the secondary routes are badly congested

just now? just now? It's criminal how badly that road was planned and how close housing developments were allowed to build that prevent expansion.
112 needs to be a brand new 4-6 lane expressway. Do it now before there are entire neighborhoods in the pathway.

It was planned in 1926 as an original Arkansas state highway

Doesn't mean when re-zoning and planning for housing development that it couldn't have been planned to be adjusted for modern day needs and uses.
I know that back then property owners had more power which is why many state roads have series of 90 degree turns around property lines.
My family's farm was split through by an improved route 60+ years and there's no airport, Fortune 1 company, or cities anywhere close to here. Just because things were done one way a century ago doesn't mean it meets the needs of the future and shouldn't be tossed away instead of enacting sensible planning.

The alignment is the original alignment from 1926. Much of the road is within Tontitown, Cave Springs, Elm Springs may as well be in Boone County. Those cities don't zone shite and will allow any kum and go five access points on any road they want if it means a cent of tax revenue
Planning a two county principal arterial on a new alignment means access management, right of way preservation, etc. State issues, not zoning issues.
Good luck telling a developer to leave a 200' section of right of way through Farmer Bob's field for a new roadway that may never happen. You have to buy it if you want to preserve it

I get it. Isn't master planning what the NWA Council was set up to do 25+ years ago?
Posted on 6/30/16 at 5:03 pm to CtotheVrzrbck
NWA Council is a tourism/sunshine pumping organization full of cronies
They don't do shite

Unless you meant the NWA Regional Planning Commission, who does do exactly what you are talking about.
Here is the preliminary study. Completed July 2015
LINK
Projected at $63M from Janice Ave to Elm Springs
$45M more to Highway 12
It will take years to do environmental impact studies, property acquisition will take 5 years. These things don't happen overnight
