Is it safe to assume that Butch Davis will not be out next head coach?

I could see us keeping JLS for the rest of the season if we are going after a coach that is currently coaching, but why would we keep him if we are going after Butch, who is currently not coaching and could step in and start recruiting and evaluating our current staff?

Hiring a new coach right now would accomplish jack shite and would probably just complicate things for the players. Why would we bring in a coach who doesn't even know our players' names in the middle of the season?

I've heard (no idea if it's true) that Davis can't coach during the 2012 season. Maybe something to do with his termination at UNC?
Anyone know if that's correct?

Recruiting would certainly pick up and have some direction if we knew who would be coaching and what kinds of players he would need to fit his system.

They could go ahead and hire him and just let him start working on next season/recruiting/putting together a staff. Basically, you make a hire now (if Butch is the guy we want) and announce it to the world so that they see we're not okay with being the laughingstock of college football.

For the rest of this season, our coaching would be even worse than it is now. OSU at least knew they were a lame duck. Without any carrot, all of the coaches (not just JLS) could/would give up. At least now they are trying

I don't think they would give up. They have to keep working on their resume for their next job.

What carrot? Any of the current coaches that are dumb enough to think that they would be retained don't deserve to coach college football.

We are getting no pass rush and the ends are constantly losing containment. What they are doing well is stopping the inside run and thats in spite of, not because of coaching

I don't think we would gain much by having Davis come in now. It would help give the program a face for 2013. However asist coaches are a large part of recruiting. BD cannot cover the nation by himself and evaluate the recruits. It would be hard to recruit players to specific offensive and defensive schemes if you do not have a DC and OC in place.
