I'm not a huge Yurachek fan, but I took this as the dreaded vote of confidence, which is a good thing for those of us who want Morris gone.

Here's what I posted on another board, copied over because I'm too lazy to reword.

quote:

The mere wording of this statement shows he's not putting his head in the sand, or at least giving the perception of doing it.

I'm heartened by the fact he didn't try a wag the dog tactic by pivoting to GPAs or "student" being the first word in "student-athlete" like Long so often did in his smarmy communiques. The line about being competitive strikes me as a veiled defense of the players, not the coaches, especially with the throw in about having "a chance in the later stages of each to win." Reads more and more like the dreaded vote of confidence. At the very least, he's showing that he knows fans are pissed and rightly so.

This gives me hope.

The biggest problem was losing to a team the rest of the sec will shut down to somewhere like 7-8 ppg, and losing to them.

It did have a whiff of the "dead man walking" statements we've seen before.

As for our last three losses being by one score... that would be heartening if it was Bama, LSU, and Auburn. When it is San Jose State, a painfully mediocre A&M, and a Kentucky team with WR playing QB it just makes things even more painful.

The worst thing is that Morris had the perfect schedule for a rebuild. Two years with 4 non p5 teams each. He pulled vandy and Kentucky from the east as well. We'll never have a schedule this easy again, and it's the worst record in history. I try not to think about it, but I fully believe Morris is tanking on purpose.

Agree with this, we had the (relatively) perfect schedule for a new coach to do a rebuild. Almost any coach would have at least 8 wins by the end of this 2 year span, and there would STILL be unhappy fans with that record.

It's not like we went 3-9 and then 5-7 and still had a pretty shitty record while showing SOME improvement. Fans wouldn't be totally satisfied with that either. No, we went 2-10 and most likely 2-10 AGAIN.

There's no hope here to get better. You can't keep that around without damaging the team, fans, recruiting, bottom line, and reputation of the program permanently. You just can't.

This part is a little nuts though. Why would he purposely tank?

He gets millions to go back to Texas.

I don't think he's tanking on purpose.

However, it's pretty clear he knows he's in over his head and is apathetic, and the buyout is a pot sweetener light at the end of the tunnel.

Give Bert credit. He underestimated the SEC and stepped in over his head, and yet he still fought through 2013 and 2014. Problem is he got cocky going into 2015 and it caught up with him, and then he basically quit after his daughter was born.
