If we do this, it's got to be a little bit subtle. There are already two Arkansas fans posting in that eastcoastrazorback thread. I suggest going in under the guise of being UW fans or maybe a third party fan.
Going in as a third party SEC team's fan and talking about how good Bielema will be in the SEC and how he was smart to use UW as a stepping stone might get some traction without being too transparent.
The problem might be registration date... but you could try a username along the lines of "BamafaninWI" or something.
need to move that discussion to an anchored thread

Barry has a bad case of asshurt.
"I've got to tell you," said athletics director and longtime Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez, who groomed Bielema to be his replacement, "and I'm not saying this negatively because Bret did a good job for us, but I haven't had one person say, 'Well, it's too bad Bret left' or 'We were sorry to see Bret leave' or 'Couldn't you have paid the assistants more money to keep him?' Not one."
"He's a good fit," Alvarez said. "Our people have really accepted him, right away. He's a legitimate guy. What you see is what you get. He's not going to go up there and try to be a comedian. You ask him a question, and he's going to give you an answer. He's got a good plan for everything, how he's going to go about things. He's a good team player."
So Barry, you mean he does what you say and won't complain when all his assistants leave because you are a cheapass.

I personally loved the "Bret had this crazy idea that if you pay assistants more money, they'd stay longer" part.

Here it is
And Bret was frickibg right as evidenced by the constant staff turnaround. So Barry's solution? Do nothing, keep paying them like shite and keep paying yourself 1.5 million a year

quote:
I think there's a misperception there," Alvarez said. "Any time somebody interviewed, Bret thought if you just throw a pile of money at them, they stay. I can't do that. We have to work on a budget. You don't just keep throwing money, because then everybody has leverage on you. All you have to do is say somebody's interested and you double their salary. You can't operate that way.

That's the real kicker, he pays everyone else shite while having the 4th highest salary among athletic directors
A ridiculously selfish, pathetic a-hole

Yea, a guy who's coached in Utah his whole career moving to Wisky.
Best fit ever, imo.

It's really hard to maintain a team at an elite level when you have a lot of staff turnover. The assistant coaches are the guys that do all of the ground work, they do most of the teaching and interacting with the players. I think Bret's record despite all the turnover is amazing. You don't see a lot of people leaving Alabama every year, or LSU, or any other high level team. If we can keep most of the same staff here at Arkansas, then Bielema will turn things around and have Arkansas right back in the mix.
The dude has a great formula for success. Eliminate pre-snap penalties, major emphasis on taking care of the ball, monsters on the O-line and D-line, and a punishing running game. He also places a lot of emphasis on special teams. We have seen special teams bite us in the arse, along with turnovers and presnap penalties several times over the last few years.

I was reading buckyville earlier and a lot of them begrudgingly admitted BB is a great CEO type coach, has an eye for talent and let's the assistants do work.
Of course he will be frustrated with high turnover if that's the case.

It will be interesting how he runs this program without Barry telling him how it should be run.

Gotta give Alvarez his respect but every time he bumps his gums he says something to erode that respect.
eta: Gladius find us new avi's. I've not seen anything pg rated that makes me laugh yet.

Skipper emerging at left tackle
quote:
When Sam Pittman was hired by Bret Bielema one of the first things the offensive line coach did was contact Arvada (Colo.) Ralston Valley offensive tackle Dan Skipper.
Skipper had given Pittman a verbal pledge while he was an assistant with Tennessee. However, when Pittman ended up at Arkansas following coaching changes in both Fayetteville and Knoxville, Skipper decided to open up his recruiting again.
The 6-10, 305-pound Skipper took visits to Tennessee, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Michigan as well as Arkansas. Skipper decided to stick with Pittman and become a Razorback. Today, he's second-team left tackle and pushing starter David Hurd.
“I put on a lot of size and strength in the summer,” Skipper said. “I have been able to really work on my pass sets and run blocking. Just perfecting the technique at the position. There has been just tremendous improvement with Coach Pittman.”
On Saturday night, Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema praised Skipper and fellow freshman, right tackle Denver Kirkland.
“I'd say our first two scoring drives on offense, running at No. 1 tackle was Dan Skipper and Denver Kirkland for the majority of those drives,” Bielema said. “Those guys have given us a lot of great depth. They'll push (Grady) Ollison and Hurd.”
Skipper reflected back on those two drives on Monday.
“Just coming in early and trying to help this team win is our focus,” Skipper said. “We're going to take it one at a time and just try to do the best we can and work hard in everything we do.”
Skipper realizes most true freshmen on the offensive line redshirt their first year in the SEC. He wanted to play, but took nothing for granted in that regard.
“I came in and tried working hard,” Skipper said. “I got out there this past summer getting ready for now. Coach Pittman when he was recruiting told me, 'You've got to work hard and see how it happens.' And that's how it has been here.”
Skipper came from a team that was predominantly a run-oriented team that averaged 35.8 points while advancing to the semifinals of the state playoffs. He said that has been his biggest adjustment from high school to college.
“The speed of the game and throwing the ball,” Skipper said. “We really didn't throw the ball much so I'm learning the pass sets and how the defense works. There's no time when the ball is snapped because of the speed on defense.”
Arkansas Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney is pleased the Razorbacks were able to land Skipper as well.
“He is doing fine,” Chaney said. “A big, tall kid getting used to the speed of the ballgame and the change of direction.
“How sudden he has got to move has been a big shock to him. But he is doing a wonderful job. He is a very competitive young man. He knows what he's doing. I love him. He's going to be a fantastic player.”
Skipper is taller than most football players and said he has heard all the jokes and theories that go with an offensive lineman being as tall as he has grown. Skipper said he has heard the one about being a basketball player over and over.
“I've gotten that a million times,” Skipper said not smiling. “That never stops. It is what it is and you take it as it comes. A lot of people would be blessed to be this tall. I just try to keep flexible.”
Skipper said he and Kirkland have become friends. The two have talked about their roles on this football team despite the fact one year ago today they were preparing for a high school game.
“We help each other,” Skipper said. “Just try to help the other stay up and improve.”

D'Arthur Cowan out 6-8 weeks per Coach Bielema. Had screw placed in his foot. Stepped back catching a kickoff & heard a crack. Another WR..

Well that hurts. Looks like Hartsfield won't be able to redshirt now with both Wilson and Cowan out.
