Beating an old dead horse, I know, but my thoughts on Rafe Peavey

He's gotten some mop up duty at SMU against low tier Stephen F Austin and North Texas. Threw for one TD. Glad for him he could have that memory.
Since this is technically his fourth year, counting a redshirt year and a sit-out transfer year, I would doubt at this point he even plays again at SMU next year unless he moves to safety or receiver or something and wants to become a coach.
Point is, if you look at his high school reels, he looks great. But in college, he was simply not able to adjust to the speed of the game. He never allowed himself to sit in the pocket in practice at Arkansas, always spooked, and then scrambling around for a busted play.
Heath Shuler would have been that way at Tennessee if David Cutcliff hadn't coached him so well. Shuler was a smart guy socially, well spoken, etc., but did not have quick fire skills analytically. Notice Shuler did not cut it in the NFL.
Anyway, wish Rafe the best. But it goes to show, you can see a great QB at the high school level, and you still don't know if they'll ever adjust to the speed of the game in college.
Hope he moves to receiver or safety and plays one more year.

Sadly QBs are the great dice roll in college and the pros. Someone who looks amazing at one level but just cannot get it done at the next. Peavey might have done fine at a read option heavy team with his speed.
Everybody gets their share of "can't miss" QBs... who then most assuredly miss. Its why having someone who can develop a QB is so important in the college game.
Enos pulled that off with BA but so far he seems to be having trouble doing the same with Austin. Partly it is the line's fault, but partly it just doesn't seem to be clicking for Austin.

The pros miss on qbs every year. It's a hard position to project

on that note let me say. I really like Kelley. I think he's a definite bright spot so far.
And he's a huge human! So hopefully he'll be able to take the beating he's gonna take behind our OL.
