Do we think it is just coincidental Butler Benton is the GM of UCLA football... or?

Benton was Director of Recruiting and Player Personnel from 2021-2023 for Pittman at Arkansas then he left to go to Notre Dame.

Four-star quarterback Madden Iamaleava, No. 143 in the 2025 ESPN 300, flipped his pledge from UCLA to Arkansas on Wednesday afternoon, multiple sources told ESPN.

Minutes after Iamaleava's move surfaced, three-star UCLA wide receiver pledge Jace Brown -- Iamaleava's teammate from California's Long Beach Polytechnic High School -- announced his commitment to Arkansas, sealing a double flip that deals a crushing blow to UCLA's incoming class.

Iamaleava, ESPN's No. 8 pocket passer in 2025, was the top-ranked member In DeShaun Foster's inaugural recruiting class with the Bruins. His flip not only leaves UCLA without an ESPN 300 pledge in the 2025 cycle but also strips Foster of a premier local signee as he works to build the Bruins through a recruiting pitch centered on bringing in-state talent into the program.

Meanwhile, at Arkansas, Iamaleava's flip represents a recruiting boon for Sam Pittman. The brother of Tennessee sophomore passer Nico Iamaleava, the younger Iamaleava lands as the second-ranked member of the Razorbacks' 2025 class and the program's first top-300 quarterback signee since Malik Hornsby arrived at Arkansas in the class of 2020.

Iamaleava was denied eligibility for his senior season this fall following a transfer from California's Warren High School to Long Beach Polytechnic. He led Warren to an 11-3 record in his first season as a starting quarterback as a junior in 2023.

Iamaleava joins a pair of in-state quarterbacks in the Razorbacks' latest class, arriving alongside four-star passer Grayson Wilson (No. 280 in the ESPN 300) and three-star dual threat Quentin Murphy. He marks Arkansas' fifth ESPN 300 signee in a class led by four-star outside linebacker Tavion Wallace, No. 45 in the ESPN 300, who signed Wednesday amid late flip pushes from Florida State and Georgia. Brown lands with the Razorbacks as the highest-ranked of two wide receiver signees headed to Arkansas in the 2025 class.

In one of the bigger Signing Day surprises of the day, Long Beach Poly (Calif.) quarterback Madden Iamaleava and wide out Jace Brown have flipped their commitments from UCLA to Arkansas.

We caught up with Iamaleava's father Nic who talked about the decision.

"It was a tough decision, I personally loved UCLA," Iamaleava said. "UCLA was a great fit because it was close to home and we love the staff there.

"We have never even visited Arkansas before except when Tennessee played there (son Nico Iamaleava is Vols starting QB). We do have some relationships there though and Madden has always dreamed about playing in the SEC and now that's a reality for him."

Over the last week or so, there has been some buzz about some potential changes to the UCLA coaching staff and that included offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

"We did hear those rumors, that he could be leaving," Iamaleava said. "We liked EB a lot, he was one of the reasons Madden committed there. That uncertainty was tough because Madden of course wanted to know who his OC would be.

"At Arkansas, we have a ton of respect for Bobby Petrino and what he has done. He has done some amazing things developing quarterbacks and calling an offense. He's one of the best there is so when they reached out to Madden, we had to listen."

Iamaleava said they reached out and talked with Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green as well.

"We wanted to know what Taylen thought of Petrino and he raved about him," Iamaleava said. "He said it's not just the offense but how he coaches and develops and said he learned so much from him already.

"We did a lot of research here and really like Arkansas' recruiting class coming in and some of the big offensive linemen as well. Madden is going to have to compete but we've never run from competition before. It's an exciting opportunity not just for Madden but for Jace too. Jace is part of the package and he's a big time receiver who can definitely play at that level so I think the boys are excited."

Both Iamaleava and Brown signed scholarship agreement paperwork today.

"This all came together pretty quick," Iamaleava said. "I didn't even know Madden put it out until I got text messages about it. Like I said, it was tough, UCLA is home and I was excited to see Madden play at the Rose Bowl.

"We still love DeShaun and that staff and they were great with us. Arkansas is an exciting opportunity though, who knows, Madden could have a chance to play against Nico next year and that's something he has always wanted to do as well."

Iamaleava and Brown only played one game this year after transferring from Downey (Calif.) Warren to Poly. They were hoping to gain eligibility but were denied by CIF.

Iamaleava is one of the top quarterbacks in the country ranked No. 224 nationally in the 247Sports Composite. He had a strong off-season during the 7v7 circuit and has a big time arm with the mobility to make plays with his legs.

He's a tough, highly competitive kid who played some receiver at Warren when his brother Nico was the quarterback at Warren. He has only had one year of game experience as a quarterback and will need some time to develop but the upside is there.

Brown is a receiver we like a lot as well. He's a big 6-4 kid who can run. He has strong hands, wins 50-50 balls and should be an immediate red zone threat.

Oregon offensive line transfer Jac'Qawn McRoy has committed to Arkansas, he confirmed to HawgBeat on Thursday evening.

A 6-foot-8, 375-pound offensive tackle, McRoy visited Fayetteville for an official visit Thursday and decided to wrap up his recruiting process without looking at any other programs.

The former four-star prospect and current four-star transfer is a native of Pinson, Alabama, and did not play for the Ducks as a freshman in 2024.

McRoy is Arkansas' first transfer portal commitment of the offseason, and he pushes the Razorbacks' projected 2025 scholarship roster count to 69.

Arkansas landed a gigantic portal addition on Thursday when Oregon transfer offensive lineman JacQawn McRoy committed to the Razorbacks during an official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.). McRoy, 6-8, 360, is the Hogs' first new commitment of the 2025 transfer class.

The Class of 2024 Top100 talent was recruited to Arkansas by offensive line coach Eric Mateos and assistant head coach Scott Fountain.

Arkansas is currently hosting multiple transfer targets and will continue to do so in the next couple of weeks. The Hogs will host coveted Georgia Tech transfer offensive tackle Corey Robinson beginning Sunday.

quote:

Cooper Petagna gave McRoy a glowing review last year as a high school prospect:

"Estimated at 6-foot-8 and 365-pounds, possesses a massive frame with limited to no growth potential to add weight to his frame. Flashes good athleticism at the right and left tackle position.

Displays good foot and body quickness for his size, shows the ability to explode into both his run and pass sets. Has a tendency to play a little high off the line of scrimmage but overcompensates with size and frame. More of a leaner at the point of attack but flashes some power in his hands and ability to naturally move defenders off the line of scrimmage. Shows the ability to play in space at the second level and doesn't appear to be limited to only playing in a power scheme at the next level. Reactionary athlete that bends well for his size and possesses some quick twitch traits in the upper and lower body.

Although he will need some physical and technical refinement at the next level, McRoy possesses a combination of size and athleticism at the right tackle position that is certain to excel at the next level. Projects as a Power Five multi-year starter at the right tackle position with the ability to continue to develop into an all-conference prospect and a potential day one or two NFL Draft choice. Recent examples of McRoy's body types at the NFL and collegiate level include Orlando Brown from the Kansas City Chiefs and Dawand Jones from Ohio State."

Redshirt junior Oklahoma cornerback transfer Kani Walker has signed with Arkansas, the team announced Saturday.

A 6-foot-2, 206-pound redshirt junior, Walker totaled 24 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception and six pass breakups for the Sooners in 2024. For his career, Walker has racked up 52 total tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions and 10 defended passes.

According to Pro Football Focus, Walker finished the 2024 season with a 62.3 defensive grade, a 69.5 run defense grade, a 60.7 tackling grade and a 60.3 coverage grade on 424 snaps.

Originally a Louisville signee in the class of 2021, the Georgia native transferred to Oklahoma ahead of the 2022 season. Walker visited Fayetteville recently.

Former Oklahoma cornerback Kani Walker has committed to Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Walker, 6-2, 206, went public with his decision on Saturday following a successful official visit in Fayetteville.

The Suwanee (Ga.) native and former Louisville Cardinal entered the season as a starter for Oklahoma's defense. As a redshirt-junior in 2024, he will have one year remaining with the Hogs.

"Because I didn't have to see anything else," Walker said. "I'm a senior now, so it's a lot different when it comes to the process versus being in high school, like being in your freshman year. Just making sure everything is lined up, making sure everything with school is lined up, making sure life after football is lined up, because you don't get it forever.

"Just having that conversation with them the first couple of hours, I can tell they have some guys around here…like there's one of the guys around here that graduated in 2020 and he's like 30 he's still here. So that goes to show how much of the tradition and how much they care about the university and they're really true to the university. I can tell that energy and that passion it's definitely cut from Arkansas and nowhere else. I understand the coaches have been here for years, so I know this isn't a switch around, so I can trust them a little bit more knowing that not everybody is just bouncing around."

Walker, who had 24 tackles and a pick in 2024, was impressed by his one-on-one time with Travis Williams.

"It was great," Walker said of his visit. "I can't tell you a place where I felt anything was wrong. Everything about Arkansas I have loved, so far. The coaches and their energy, having conversations with Coach (T-)Will. He talked a great game of football. I can tell how detailed he is.

"Coming from a school like Oklahoma where they teach details and are so precise, it helps me that I know the game of football better than you think. We were in there watching film for two hours straight. Really skipped dinner. We had to get boxes to go. It was just a good talk. Good football, great vibes here.

"I can't say anything wrong about Arkansas. Even the scenery I was thinking nothing's out here. As soon as I came out here, I could see how busy it is and how it's more of a city. I enjoyed it and my lady enjoyed it as well."

Arkansas' first transfer commitment of the offseason came Thursday when former Oregon offensive lineman JacQawn McRoy went public with his decision during an official visit in Fayetteville. The Hogs are currently hosting several other official visitors and will be welcoming more over the weekend and into next week.

The Razorbacks have had 23 outgoing transfers, which doesn't include two others who entered the portal and then later removed their names (Braylen Russell, Selman Bridges).

The Hogs signed 23 new high school and junior college additions in the early signing period for the Class of 2025.

Arkansas' high school recruiting class currently ranks 31st nationally and 15th in the SEC. The transfer class entered the day ranked 14th nationally with one commitment for 7.55 points.

Northwest Mississippi Community College sophomore cornerback Keshawn Davila has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks, he announced Saturday.

A 6-foot-1, 170-pound native of Florida, Davila totaled 22 tackles, one tackle for loss, nine defended passes and three interceptions in nine games for the Rangers during the 2024 season.

Davila chose the Razorbacks over offers from programs like Kentucky, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Michigan State, Washington, Florida and others.

As a freshman in 2023, Davila totaled 35 tackles, six tackles for loss, two pass breakup, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a sack to help Northwest Mississippi C.C. finish with a 7-3 overall record and an appearance in the MACCC Playoffs.

Following his commitment, the Hogs now have seven projected cornerbacks for the 2025 roster, according to HawgBeat's count.

Arkansas received a late addition to the 2025 signing class on Saturday when the nation's top junior college cornerback, Keshawn Davila, went public with his commitment to Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks. Davila, 6-1, 170, chose the Hogs during his official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.), turning down other finalists in Virginia Tech and UCLA.

The Tampa (Fla.) native also held offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Arizona State, Baylor, Florida, Utah and others. He is the No. 1 JUCO corner in the land and the No. 7 overall junior college prospect in the country for the 2025 cycle, per 247Sports.

"Because of the coaches," Davila said of his decision. "It really felt like family here. I'm going to have a good chance to come in here and play too."

Davila has two years left and is seen as a solid addition to an Arkansas program that finished dead-last in the SEC in defending the pass in 2024. With his commitment, the Razorbacks go from 32nd to 30th nationally, and from 15th to 14th in the conference recruiting rankings.

"I feel like they get some cornerbacks on the back end a lot of games would have been winnable," Davila said.

He was recruited to Fayetteville by defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson and is expected to push for a starting job in 2025.

"Speed," Davila answered when asked what he brings to Arkansas. "I get a lot of picks. I shut down one side."

Arkansas has landed a commitment from Fresno State transfer wide receiver Raylen Sharpe after his official visit earlier in the week. Sharpe, 5-9, 165, is the Razorbacks' third transfer commitment of the offseason, joining former Oregon offensive lineman JacQawn McRoy and former Oklahoma cornerback Kani Walker.

Sharpe, a Texas native, went public with his decision on Sunday after wrapping up an official visit at Tulane.

"There's so many different positives to it," Sharpe said. "Coach (Ronnie) Fouch, I know him personally not just as a coach but a father figure as well. Bobby P, just to be able to know the offense and being able to transition very well.

"This is SEC football. You show you're good at football, there's no question about it . The thing about my size, that was the question is about the next level if you can play against real talent and things like that's so a plus. My family is from Arkansas so my family would be able to go to games. It think it would be an exciting adventure for them as well. That's the thing I have to look at, this isn't just for me it's about my family as well. Being in California, it was kind of hard to for my family being 25 hours from home. This is about three hours from home."

Having family in the Natural State was a big deal to Sharpe,

The Hogs are expected to sign between 4-5 transfer wide receivers in this year's cycle.

Junior Fresno State wide receiver transfer Raylen Sharpe has signed with Arkansas, he announced Sunday.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Texas native was a pass-catcher for two seasons (2022-23) at Missouri State under then-head coach Bobby Petrino, who is now the offensive coordinator for the Razorbacks.

In two years with the Bears, Sharpe caught 89 passes for 1,298 yards and eight touchdowns, which includes a 991-yard season in 2023. This past year for Fresno State, Sharpe made 51 grabs for 523 yards and three scores.

Sharpe's best performance came against former Razorback defensive coordinator and UNLV head coach Barry Odom on Sept. 28, as Sharpe totaled 10 receptions for 116 yards in the loss.

Former Michigan State defensive lineman Ken Talley has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Talley, 6-3, 265, reached his decision during an official visit in Fayetteville over the weekend.

Talley, a Phildelphia native and former four-star prospect in the Class of 2022, was recruited to Arkansas by defensive line coach Deke Adams, who is looking for a total of at least four defensive linemen from the portal.

"Main reason right now would be Coach Deke Adams and the plan on how I can get better," Talley said. "Also, Coach T-Will (Travis Williams), me getting to talk to him and the scheme, he's showcasing my talent all over the field."

Talley was a redshirt-sophomore in 2024 when he posted 6 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and 2 quarterback hurries. As a redshirt-freshman the year before, he was 20 pounds lighter and contributed 5 tackles, 1 tackle loss and a hurry in five games played.

The Razorbacks are looking for both immediate contributors and depth pieces along the line after losing Landon Jackson to the NFL and Nico Davillier to the transfer portal. Talley would be seen as more of a replacement for Davillier.

"It gives me an opportunity with guys leaving and that definitely appeals to me," Talley said. "But I've still go to come in and compete for my spot."

Talley, who is expected to join the Hogs in January, didn't need long to make his decision after checking out the UA and surrounding areas.

"The visit was amazing," he said. "Love the campus and staff. Coach (Adams) telling me how I would get better next year."

The Razorbacks have had 24 outgoing transfers, which doesn't include one who entered the portal and then later removed his name (Selman Bridges). Arkansas now has four transfer additions in Talley, offensive lineman JacQawn McRoy (Oregon), wide receiver Raylen Sharpe (Fresno State) and cornerback Kani Walker (Oklahoma).

Michigan State transfer defensive end Ken Talley committed to Arkansas on Monday after taking a recent official visit in Fayetteville.

Talley was rated as a four-star recruit coming out of Northeast High School in Philadelphia. He appeared in 15 games over two seasons with the Spartans and logged 11 total tackles, three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Before joining Michigan State, Talley signed with Penn State out of high school in the 2022 class. He joined the Spartans in August of 2022. Talley will have two years of eligibility remaining.

This fall, Talley logged 152 total snaps, according to Pro Football Focus, which gave him a 57.8 overall defensive grade and a 60.3 pass rush grade.

Talley is a much-needed addition to a defensive line that is losing starters Landon Jackson (NFL), Eric Gregory (out of eligibility) and Nico Davillier (portal), plus more contributors as well.

Arkansas also landed Oregon transfer offensive lineman JacQawn McRoy on Thursday as the first commitment in this cycle.

Arkansas has landed a transfer commitment from former UAB wide receiver and return specialist Kam Shanks, per Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports.

Shanks, a 5-8, 180-pound redshirt-freshman from Prattville (Ala.), posted 62 catches for 656 yards and 6 touchdowns while adding 8 rushes for 50 yards in 2024. He also had 16 punt returns for 329 yards and 2 touchdowns.

He was named first-team All-AAC as a return specialist and third-team all-conference as a receiver.

Shanks was a late addition to the visit list after Scott Fountain, Arkansas' special teams coordinator, made the call to get him to Fayetteville (Ark.). Shanks is the Hogs' second wide receiver addition in a transfer class that is expected to reach as many as five new additions this offseason.

Arkansas landed Fresno State transfer receiver Raylen Sharpe, a former Bobby Petrino player at Missouri State, earlier in the week.

Redshirt freshman UAB wide receiver transfer Kam Shanks has committed to Arkansas, a source confirmed to HawgBeat.

He is also expected to sign with the Razorbacks, according to Pete Nakos of On3.

A 5-foot-8, 180-pound Alabama native, Shanks was named Third-Team AAC All-Conference after reeling in 62 catches for 656 yards and six touchdowns. He was named First-Team All-Conference as a return specialist after leading the nation in punt returns yards (329), punt return average (20.6) and punt return touchdowns (two).

Against the Razorbacks this season on Sept. 14, Shanks caught five passes for 31 yards and a score. According to his X bio, Shanks runs a 4.43 40-yard dash.

Pro Football Focus graded Shanks out with a 71.8 offensive grade, a 72.3 pass grade and a 70.4 run-block grade following the 2024 regular season. He also had a 91.1 grade in punt situations.

Texas A&M tight end transfer Jaden Platt committed to Arkansas on Tuesday, per A&P Sports Agency.

Listed at 6-foot-5, 260-pounds, the redshirt freshman played just seven snaps in 2024 and earned a 53.8 Pro Football Focus grade in that span. As a freshman in 2023, Platt notched 17 snaps and one receiving touchdown.

Out of V.R. Easton High School in Haslet, Texas, Platt chose the Aggies over offers from programs like Baylor, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas and others.

quote:

Arkansas has landed a commitment from Texas A&M transfer tight end Jaden Platt, who wrapped up an official visit with the Razorbacks on Sunday and announced his choice on Tuesday.

Platt, 6-5, 260, is a Haslet (Texas) native who was offered by the Hogs as a four-star recruit out of high school and is now listed as a high three-star transfer with a grade of 89 per 247Sports.

"There's so many reasons," Platt said. "Coach (Morgan) Turner, Coach (Bobby) Petrino and those are a few. Then, hearing from Taylen (Green) and Andreas (Paaske), the team is something I want to be a part of. That's a big thing. The school here takes care of its players. They have what is important to me."

Platt entered the portal on December 4 and quickly arranged trips to Arkansas and Florida State, which he was slated to see on Wednesday. His time in Fayetteville was enough to get Platt to shut it down by calling the Hogs.

"It went really well. Coach Turner has shown me around a lot," Platt said. "It went really well. They welcomed my family and that is important to me. It's looking like a family. I talked to Taylen and Andreas. They are great guys and great players. They welcomed me pretty well. The visit was awesome.

"The highlight of the trip was meeting with Coach Turner and him telling me his plans for me in the future. Meeting with Taylen and Andreas. How they feel about the team and that's what is important to me. How the team culture is. How the coaches act toward the players. And they told me the truth. It's always good what they say about the coaches. How they feel and how they truly feel about the program. Nothing but good things from Taylen and Andreas. I really appreciate what they said."

Platt was initially committed to Turner at Stanford, which made it easy to make the call last week once the former Aggie hit the portal. He was also impressed by his time under offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, who held the same title in College Station in 2023.

"It's really cool. Coach Turner recruited me at Stanford. Having meet up with him again is really special. I was committed to him before everything happened at Stanford. So there's definitely a connection there.

"Coach Petrino, man he's an offensive genius," Platt said. "With the right players and right skills there's no ends or limits with his offense. It's really promising in that scope of things."

Arkansas' need for tight ends following three outgoing transfers and a potential move of Shamar Easter to wide receiver definitely stood out to Platt, who seeks an opportunity to play after seeing action in a handful of games while helping mostly on special teams.

"Yes sir, it does, it does effect how I feel about the school," Platt said. "Knowing I have a chance, but I am of the mindset I'm going to have to compete for it no matter where I go. Depending if there's one tight end or six tight ends. I'm going to work hard and earn what is given."

The Razorbacks have had 24 outgoing transfers, which doesn't include one who entered the portal and then later removed his name (Selman Bridges). Arkansas now has four transfer additions in Platt, offensive lineman JacQawn McRoy (Oregon), wide receiver Raylen Sharpe (Fresno State) and cornerback Kani Walker (Oklahoma).
