FIVE-STAR ANNOR BOATANG GOES OFF IN SEASON DEBUT

quote:

Annor Boateng made his season debut playing for Team Griffin on Friday night and the five-star wing reminded everyone why he carries a lofty ranking with a hyper-impressive 26-point, seven-rebound performance that saw him shoot 50 percent from the floor and score in almost every imaginable way. There were pull-up jumpers, drives past defenders, circus finishes and a pair of 3-pointers. His defensive effort was also notable, as the long and athletic prospect caused havoc in passing lanes and showed off an improved motor that kept him engaged for nearly every minute he was on the court.

Boatang is already the No. 14 prospect in the class of 2024, but will make a case to move up if he continues the pace he set for himself Friday, The Little Rock (Ark.) Central High School junior holds offers from programs such as Auburn, Arkansas and Georgia Tech.

I've Got Five On It: Players on the rise after their recent play

quote:

2. ANNOR BOATENG

quote:

CURRENT RANKING: 16

WHY HE’S ON THE RISE: It might be a bit too early in the grassroots season to get too carried away talking about Boateng’s rankings potential because he’s already highly regarded, but if his first weekend on the EYBL circuit was any indication there simply aren’t many more complete prospects in the country.

His first game of the grassroots season saw him score 26 points and grab seven rebounds in a matchup with top-five prospect Dylan Harper. Boateng scored from every part of the floor in the contest, shooting 50% and showing impressive effort on both the glass and the defensive end. He averaged 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds in four games in Dallas last weekend. If Boateng stays the course a move into the top 10 feels like a forgone conclusion.

RECRUITMENT: Boateng, who plays his high school ball at Little Rock (Ark.) Central, is already a priority target for schools such as Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Auburn. His offer list is likely to explode this summer.

JALEN SHELLEY, SF: PRESTONWOOD CHRISTIAN (TX)

quote:

Recruitment: He visited Louisville officially in March. Others like Alabama, Arkansas, Creighton, Houston, Kansas State, LSU, Oklahoma State, SMU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and TCU are involved in his recruitment.

Previous ranking: 102

New Ranking: 66

Why he moved: Since making his way onto the 247Sports radar in 2021 while playing 15U ball, Jalen Shelley has been on a bit of a roller coaster ride. When he’s on, he’s a big lefty wing who can be a playmaker for himself and others off the dribble while also being a really dangerous transition performer. At other times, his effort level can fluctuate and his jump shot is still a work in progress. Recently, he’s started to add some much-needed strength and has been having more highs than lows. If he can really lock in and get consistent, then he could improve to be one of the best wings in the class.

On the recruiting side of things, coaches were allowed to reach out to Yessoufou on Thursday of last week. He says Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Texas, UCLA, UNLV, USC, and Washington were just a few of the schools that contacted him.

quote:

Arkansas: "They proved that they are really interested in me by texting and talking to me. Eric Musselman is a great coach who is all about winning. I love that. I plan on visiting them next year when we play in a tournament. I want to see what their campus is about."

3. TRE JOHNSON

quote:

Cassidy's Take: Kentucky, Baylor and Texas stand at the core of Tre Johnson’s recruitment. Alabama and Arkansas are also involved with Johnson, whose length and smooth jumper will keep him among the top five prospects in this class until the end.

Johnson is able to create for both himself and others, and is taking some positive strides as a ball-handler as well. His length and lateral mobility will allow him to be a valuable defender at the college level.

quote:

5. KARTER KNOX

quote:

Cassidy's Take: Karter Knox, the younger brother of Kentucky star turned NBA lottery pick Kevin Knox, breaks into the top five on the heels of a spring that saw him average more than 20 PPG while shooting better than 53% from the floor on the EYBL circuit.

Kentucky, Louisville, Arkansas and Florida State are all serious contenders for the Florida-based star.

Five-Star Plus+ guard Tre Johnson signs with LIFT Sports Management for NIL representation

quote:

Tre Johnson made the decision five days ago to transfer to Link Academy in Missouri. The Five-Star Plus+ guard and No. 3 prospect in the 2024 recruiting class is leaving Texas Class 6A state champion Lake Highlands for his senior year.

He will be able to profit off his NIL since it is a private school, despite the Missouri State High School Activities Association prohibiting activity. A new state law does allow for high schoolers to enter into NIL deals and start earning endorsement money as soon as they sign with in-state colleges

And he will have NIL representation for his final season of high school ball. Johnson has signed with LIFT Sports Management, the agency announced on Twitter on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5, 180 shooting guard has already been projected as a lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

It’s unknown is if the move to Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, was completely fueled by NIL. Signing an agent shortly after sends a message, though. Founded in 2020 by former NBA player Mike Miller, LIFT Sports works with a number of college and professional players including Coleman Hawkins and Keyonte George.

LIFT brought on Kevin Bradbury as its head of basketball last month, adding Patrick Beverley and Paolo Banchero among other clients.

Johnson released his top six of Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky and Texas last month. He told On3’s Joe Tipton he isn’t in a rush to commit, but he is aiming to make a decision before late-July’s EYBL’s Peach Jam.

“Relationships and who is already going in my class,” Johnson said when asked what played a factor. “Transfer portal a little bit too.”

His decision to leave the Dallas-Fort Worth area puts him on one of the top high school basketball programs. He averaged 21.8 points and 6.4 rebounds as a junior this past season for Lake Highlands. Link finished with a 27-1 record, winning Geico Nationals. The shooting guard joins a roster that will include 2025 four-star point guard Aaron Rowe and 2024 four-star small forward Jalen Shelley.

Known as a knockdown shooter, he has deep range with the ability to make shots off the catch or the bounce. He will represent USA Basketball in the 2023 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup later this month.

Arkansas targets see movement in updated 2024 Rivals150

Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman and his staff still have one spot to fill for the 2023-24 roster, but they will soon be able to put their full focus on recruits for the class of 2024.

The Razorbacks do not have a commitment from a 2024 prospect yet, but they remain in the mix for some of the nation's best.

Plenty of the Hoop Hogs' top targets are listed in the updated rankings of the Rivals150. Some of them saw positive movement and some saw their ranking drop, such as shooting guard Tre Johnson, who dropped from the No. 1 overall spot to No. 3 in the latest rankings.

While Arkansas basketball continues to finalize its roster for the upcoming season, Eric Musselman and his coaching staff have shown they have their eyes very much on the future as well. Take Knox, Ali, and Johnson and use the portal for the rest.

Thomas went to Clemson which is probably a good spot for his ability.

Branson (Mo.) Link Academy four-star small forward Jalen Shelley is down to eight schools, he tells On3. Moving forward, the 6-foot-8, 175-pound rising senior will consider Arkansas, Colorado, Houston, Louisville, LSU, Marquette, Ohio State, and Texas A&M.

Shelley has taken only one official visit so far — Louisville. Houston and Arkansas have each hosted him unofficially.

Along with his final eight schools, the Frisco, Texas native also received offers from Texas, Tennessee, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Alabama, Creighton, and others.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Shelley is the No. 44 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 15 small forward prospect and the No. 3 player in the state of Missouri. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Visits in the works
Shelley says he’s in the middle of planning five visits. He’s looking to visit LSU and Arkansas in August and hopes to see Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Marquette in September. Dates are still TBD.

Shelley talks programs involved
In a previous interview with On3, Jalen Shelley discussed several of the programs involved in his recruitment.

Arkansas: “Coach (Eric) Musselman really knows what he’s doing and gets guys to the league. I really like that about them. It’s a pretty high-level program. With the freshman class they had last year, its pretty promising.”

Scouting Report
The first thing you think of when watching Jalen Shelley is upside. He is a legit 6-foot-7, 6-foot-8 with long arms, wide-set shoulders, and he moves so fluidly. Shelley is a former wide receiver, and you can see that with the way he moves. Shelley has excellent explosion at the basket; he really shows off in transition. The left-hander has a repeatable release on his jump shot. The shot is a bit of a set shot, so you would like to see him develop off movement and off-the-bounce. He is a good straight-line driver to the basket and able to take up so much space with his long strides. Shelley has an upside on the defensive end, given his natural quick-twitch athleticism and long frame. He has given up football to focus fully on basketball. With continued game reps and consistent training, there is a lot of ceiling ready for this one to take. – On3’s Jamie Shaw

Pasadena (Texas) Memorial four-star power forward Robert Miller III is down to six schools, he tells On3. Moving forward, the 6-foot-9, 225-pound rising senior will consider Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Miller has taken official visits to LSU and Colorado. Texas has hosted him unofficially and he says he’d like to return to Austin for an official visit. He currently does not have a time frame for a commitment.

Along with his six finalists, he also received offers from Houston, Cal, TCU, Kansas State, Texas A&M, and others.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Miller is the No. 51 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 6 power forward prospect and the No. 1 player in the state of Texas. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s evaluators are higher on him than the industry, ranking him 33rd nationally.

Scouting Report
Robert Miller III has all the tools making his upside fascinating. He stands every bit of 6’9”/6’10” with long arms and fluid movements. He has a smooth shooting stroke with catch and shoot ability when his feet are set from beyond the arc. Miller is a fluid athlete with some explosive pop. He runs and moves, both laterally and vertically, very well. He can put it on the floor for 2-3 dribbles and has a developing mid-post game with a nice mid-range pull-up game. He needs to continue adding a strength to his core and base. Continue working on his footwork and the finer nuances of how he scores his baskets. He can face the basket in the half-court and finish in transition at the rim. Miller is still raw, he is still young and learning his spots. He will need to continue focusing on rebounding and on defense. The flashes are very apparent here, and the patience could be well worth the wait. – On3’s Jamie Shaw

One of the top prospects in the Lone Star State has announced that he is down to six programs. This afternoon, four-star forward Robert Miller says he will only be considering Arkansas, Alabama, Colorado, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas moving forward.

“It was mostly about the schools that I felt would develop me and get me to the next level,” Miller said. “I want them to be honest with me and tell me everything I need to get to the next level. I want to be successful years after that.”

A 6-foot-10 skilled four-man out of Pasadena (Texas) Memorial, Miller has completed two official visits to Colorado and LSU. He also has been to Texas for unofficial visits.

He discussed his thoughts on the qualifying members with 247Sports:

Arkansas: "They just offered and I like the way they talk to me. They are open with me and it is a family atmosphere there. Every staff member reached out to me when I got the offer so I like how they welcomed me to the family."

Now that he is down to six, Miller says he will try to announce a college decision before the start of his senior year of high school.

One of the top stockrisers in the latest update of the 2024 Top150 player rankings, Miller is ranked No. 40 overall in the national rising senior class

Assuming Harris is scholarship player, Arkansas is back to the 13 maximum following the news that Washington transfer Keyon Menifield will be a non-scholarship redshirt this season.

Harris, a 6-foot-7 forward, de-committed from New Mexico State on June 12.

As a senior at Southern Miss, Harris averaged 8.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.2% from the field and 67.8% from the free throw line.

The Columbus, Missississippi, native will be using his last year of eligibility in Fayetteville after spending four seasons in Hattiesburg.

Harris boasted a similar stat-line the year prior to being a Razorback as former Hog Trey Wade did in the 2021-22 season. Wade, who transferred from Wichita State, averaged 6.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game his final season as a Shocker. The two are even similar size, as Wade was listed at 6-foot-6, 220 pounds.

The Wichita State transfer went on to start 24 games for Arkansas, appearing in 37 and playing 17.1 minutes per game, en route to the Elite Eight. Wade played a crucial role down the stretch that season as a physical presence and perimeter threat.

Harris looks to bring the same sort of impact with plenty of experience at a winning program. He started 22 games for the regular season Sun Belt champions this past season, and made 43 career starts for the Golden Eagles.

Coming out of Columbus High School, Harris committed to play for Southwest Mississippi Community College, where he suffered a season-ending injury after just two games. He then transferred to Southern Miss, which he played the last three seasons for.

After redshirting in the 2019-20 season, Harris played in 22 games and started eight in 2020-21 as a redshirt sophomore. He averaged 3.4 points and 4.4 rebounds that year.

As a Covid sophomore in 2021-22, Harris start 13 of his 32 games played and he averaged 2.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game.

Harris is Arkansas' seventh transfer addition of the offseason. He joins Menifield, El Ellis (Louisville), Tramon Mark (Houston), Khalif Battle (Temple), Jeremiah Davenport (Cincinnati) and Chandler Lawson (Memphis).
