Of course they hired Urban Meyer without so much as an interview where we will have to interview a ton of guys.

That's how it goes for basically every program outside of a very select few. One of the ESPN writers (Schad or Schlabach I think) even said he came to College Station to gauge his own interest in our job right before him to OSU became official. frick you Columbus tattoo parlors

Coaching searches really suck though, and it made me extremely unproductive. Y'all pay big money and have a great situation so I wouldn't be too worried about it if I were you.

Our last coaching search was miserable. We were led to believe that we had offered and received acceptances from Tommy Tubberville, Tommy Bowden and Jim Grobe in that order. It was so long, drug out and embarrassing. Thankfully Grobe turned us down because out of the blue we suddenly hired Petrino as our head coach.

Despite the positive outcome of that search, it and our failed Dana Altman/John Pelphrey hire in basketball has made me despise any coaching search at all.

I completely agree. Our fans were very split on the Sumlin hire and many wanted Larry Fedora instead, but this was our first search in my lifetime that wasn't run by boosters and friends of the program. That was the only comforting thing about it. The good thing for y'all (and bad I guess for the impatient fans) is that there isn't a ton of rush and they can take their time interviewing people since there aren't any other moving parts in the coaching world right now.

Whats peoples thoughts on Trussel.

We already got some of his staff from Ohio St here, and we NEED to keep them on, I would bring him in, we would to give the NCAA reason why they shouldn't give us a penalty for hiring him, but IMO that would be as good as hire as we could get.

It's like our own fort. We can decide who we let stay.

Only been able to check the SECr a couple of times today and though its calmed down some it's still can get pretty brutal. Mostly the same anti Arky ringleaders keeping the mob stirred up. Haven't ventured to Nobville yet......just too soon I guess.

I'm ready to know who's staying on and if we're going to go after anyone for the job this season.

I'm interested to see if we are going to lose any current players to transfer or if we have any recent signees ask to be released from their LOI.

I was able to get on late last night but not at all today.

I really wish this didn't happen now because it's going to suck not having a true coaching search and new hire in place shortly.

My present leaning (subject to change without notice) is to keep the current staff in place elevating one to Interim HC and back fill the position he coached. This team needs a whole lot of calming, stability, and focus right now.

Kinda got the feeling that he was getting a little squirrelly right before this happened anyway. Won't be shocked if he bolts, just hope its not to aTm, LSU, or Bama.

Well ascolese and cowan have said they are staying no matter what...coachingsearch.com says if we promote from in-house we'd look at clemson DC kevin steele for the open position on defense

Same guy whose defense gave up 70+ in the Orange Bowl? No thanks.

IMO, kevin steele would be a good hire in that position, assuming Johnson becomes Interim HC and maintain's playcalling duties...

he's a lights out recruiter, and that's something that's gonna need addressing in what could be a pretty drawn out hiring process.

Considering who's available and the fact that it's the middle of April, Steele would be good hire, IMO.

I expect that to be the knee-jerk reaction, but who are you gonna get that's better at this point?... very good recruiter with SEC experience... plus, you wouldn't be asking him to call the defense... this should be Johnsons' defense regardless.
