I don't believe Skipper will even visit OU. He already has Ole Miss scheduled for next weekend and that will be his 5th visit. Most have it coming down to us, Ohio St, and Ole Miss.

Somewhere Austin Tate is crying....

Why would our starter be upset that the likely 3rd or 4th string guy firmed up his commitment? Henry will be a great player for us but he's not going to come in and be a starter as a true freshman.

He's going to have to learn how to play with his hand in the dirt which is going to be tough at first because he never did that at PA. However he is a much better receiver already than probably any of our TE's on the roster. I imagine if he comes in at the beginning of the summer he'll at least start the season as our #2 TE behind Tate. Depending on what his learning curve is in the running game and how he does in the weight room, I could see him overtaking Tate by the end of the year. He is leaps and bounds ahead of where any of our current TE's were when they came to college.

I just don't see bielema playing an as yet to be developed TE in the trenches when he's got bigger options.
And dean supposedly has some of the best hands on the team.

I can agree with that as well. It really just depends on how well he adjust to playing on the line. I've watched quite a bit of his PA highlights and he was never on the line. He can block the shite out of a WR but you never see him taking on an End or a LB. He's going to have to hit the S&C program bigtime if he wants significant playing time this year.
Dean is the interesting one in the depth chart. I watched him a few times at Fayetteville and he does have great hands. Same with Voelzke. He was actually a WR in high school and then bulked up and converted to TE at the staffs request ala Gragg.

Do you really think he is going to be anything more than a blocker with the other options we will have? Sure Henry has a lot to learn when it comes to the blocking aspect of being a TE but he brings more to the table in the passing game than anyone we have on campus.
Maybe I am wrong but I think he will make a big impact for us next year. As it stands right now we have no one that has proven they are weapon in the passing game.

Lets look at our TE depth for next season.
Austin Tate - 6'6, 253 - RS SR
Alex Voelzke - 6'6 220 - RS SO
Demetrius Dean 6'3 250 - RS FR
Jeremy Sprinkle - 6'6 215 - RS FR - assuming he stays here
Hunter Henry - 6'6 235 - FR
For starters, Wisconsin carried 9 TE's and 3 FB's on their roster this past season so I definitely think we'll see an influx of guys in the next class.
They had 3 different TE's catch passes this year and at least 4 played so I would think it will be tough to keep Henry off the field unless physically he just isn't ready yet.

Dean was a really talented receiving TE in high school. Great hands. He's proven just as much as Henry.
Stop getting your expectations up for a true freshman to start in the SEC at a position that requires physicality he's never had to exhibit. Setting yourself up to be disappointed already.
Tate is a good TE. he blocks well and catches what's thrown to him. He'll be the starter because he doesn't immediately tip off opposing defensive coordinators what the play call will be.
Dean has great hands, like Henry, but has 20 pounds on Hunter and has been given some exposure to playing with his hand on the ground against SEC size defenders.
My expectation is that those two will be the first two TEs to start the season unless Henry gains 15-20 pounds between now and the fall. Even so, there's a lot to be said for experience and age.
Tate
Dean
Henry/voelzke
Weir

I think outside of a few exceptions, the majority of the fanbase is going to have to adjust to CBB and recruiting.
With Nutt and Petrino, many who have following recruiting closely (not me) get all excited and have their favorite recruit(s) picked out on NSD and start following them and then get excited to see them play the following fall. I think we will see far less of them playing in the following fall in the coming years with a real deal redshirt program being instituted, this isn't a bad thing, especially with linemen and other "non skill" players to spend a year in the S&C program getting ready for SEC play. This also answers the question of how CBB will compete on the field with "his style of play" and "Arkansas' recruiting".
This also will fix other issues Arkansas has had in past such as attrition of recruiting classes, or huge busts in classes like the 2010 class most recently for example, another issue it can address would be the APR, which is something Long has continually address in his PCs, but most have overlooked.
Something else this strategy should help in is sustain success, most believed this year would have been a rebuilding year for Petrino anyway, which would have been after a 4 year cycle for him, which would have not been any different than what we went through with Nutt, the only thing we can assume is that we would have experienced higher highs and maybe not as low lows, we did experience as low lows, but I'm going to chalk that up to JLS and crew taking a year paid vacation with no consequences since most of them were able to land jobs this for this up coming season including 3 of them landing HC jobs... Still we weren't going to win 10+ games with that roster again if we experienced the injuries we did even if Petrino was still HC, made a bowl game sure.
CBB's strategy should keep the program like Wisconsin's was as far as win averages, beating the teams you should, competing against the top of the conference year in and out, the breaks go your way you can compete for a conference title, you can't ask for anything more than that.

Agreed. I think he is going to get lost in the shuffle from Petrino players to Bielema players.

I've seen in multiple places that Weir will probably never play again due to concussions. That's why I didn't include him on my depth chart above. Have you heard anything along those llines?

That does sound familiar now that you mention it.

Hopefully it's not true because that kid is one hell of an athlete. I was really looking forward to finally seeing him play.
By the way, have you guys seen this kid yet? Patrick Arinze
I guess he is an invited walk-on but he just appeared out of nowhere. Kiero Small 2.0.

I agree with the above post that we will redshirt more players but if they recruit on the level many of us are hoping for we will still land some who play right away. Henry, Tenpenny, Collins all have the ability to play right away.
I really was just making a joke about Tate. Didn't know I would get everyone so upset. He is a good blocker and has solid hands but isn't going to stretch the field. That is where I see Henry helping out at. I could see us running alot of 2 TE sets with 1 being more of a blocking TE and the other being more of a receiver.
