What's crazy is how depressed that year made so many of us, when 40+ schools would KILL to go to a bowl game this year.

Very true. Man, it was so depressing. I really thought we had gotten back to a level of being solidly good every year after 2005. Not Alabama-Saban level good, but 9+ wins most years good with an occasional year of national relevance.

I was a junior and went to Fayetteville, Gainesville and Knoxville that year. It was fvckin agony. Every game was a slow, tortuous death.

Sometime in 2006. Sitting in the student section and me knowing along with everyone else in the stadium that "Darby up the middle" was the only offensive play we had. I hated Shula that year.

You remember the ad in the Crimson White that next spring for the Corolla?

A half page picture of Darby/Castille/McClain in the backfield with giant print below it "HOW ELSE WILL YOU EXPLAIN THE JUMBO PACKAGE TO YOUR KIDS?"

What is WoolyAl?

My history of posting started with BOL (RT and Water Cooler) in the early 2000s (along with the free boards of Volquest, Auburn Rivals), then the Mainboard for a brief stint, then over here.

Never really frequented anywhere else.

I don't know, but I wish TS was still around. It was by far the largest Bama sports forum. I lurked for a while, then signed up near the end of 2010, but never posted.

Nope - just good ole fashioned rivals.com.

Used to create stupid names like "BenLeard4Heisman" and post on other boards and act like a jackass.

Three that come to mind are the 1997 Iron Bowl when Scissum fumbled at the end, 2010 Iron Bowl for obvious reasons, and 2013 Iron Bowl for even more obvious reasons...

4th and 19, no matter how many games and titles we win, will haunt my dreams until the day I day.

fox sports ended their highlight clip with me leaned over the rail in my crimson blazer head in hands.

that was a traumatic loss.

Yeah - it was so unexpected that we were in the spot to win the game due to the previous 5 weeks.

I mean, I hate to bring up ghost stories, but think about the previous 5 weeks.

- Loss to Northern Illinois
- devastating OT loss to Arkansas in which we were up 3 scores at some point
- total beatdown loss at Georgia
- 17-3 win over Southern Miss in which Brandon Avalos went 3-7 for 12 yards
- total beatdown loss at Ole Miss

Even worse than 4th and 19 might have been when we couldn't get 1/2 a yard on 3 tries at midfield at the end of regulation to ice the game.

Damn it

This might be weird but 2014 Arkansas. Fresh off a loss from Ole Miss and after a full week of every sports analyst saying that Bama's run was finally over. You could tell that for once the pressure was really starting to get to the team, since it was just torture to watch us struggle with a team who hadn't won an SEC game in like 2 years.

I was still in the MDB and was thinking that we really didn't deserve to play Rammer Jammer that night, we were lucky to escape with a win. I also thought LSU, Aggy and Auburn were going to run right over us. Glad I was wrong about that.

That's actually a pretty good one Carolina.

I remember, as Blake sputtered and it just felt like a game we were going to lose that this might be the end. We can't move the ball, our defense was good but not lights out, we're about to lose to a team that hasn't won an SEC game in roughly 13 years.

I think for me it was the announcement of the Means penalties. We had been through lean times because of the previous penalties under Stallings. We were just getting our feet back under us. Then the rug was pulled out from under again. It had already been five years with no realistic chance of competing at a high level. Then I knew it would be at least five more years of pipe dreams as far as high level competition. So at this point I realize that it's the middle of a ten year shite show. That day and its aftermath sucked.
