Sometimes the defense is well prepared and executes well (vs OM, MSU, AU, UGA). At times, it's the opposite (vs UF, A&M, AR).

I'm about the same. Players definitely look lost early in the season and I don't know why Nick and his analyst empire can't help with that.

College football is about recruiting and player evaluation/development first and foremost. If Golding helps in that area, then it may compensate for other areas. I'm not on the inside and have no idea about his strengths.

Someone brought up coaches who admit to not liking recruiting, and it reminded me that Jim McElwain said the same thing publicly. I was floored. I also knew that meant no way he'd be successful at Florida.

Golding has done a great job this year - look at where bama’s defense is ranked.

I agree but we’re definitely in the minority. People expect the defenses of the past, 2011, 2016, etc., but those days I believe are long past. Many folk here were raving about UGA’s defense and wanting us to be like that…and then they played a great offense (us) and they were torched. UGA is still a great D, but as Saban said, good offense trumps good defense these days…

I like Pruitt as a DC but, if he ever comes back, I don’t expect a return to those glory days on D. That 2016 D was great…but folk forget that it gave up three 400+ yard passing games to three different QBs…if that had been Golding, they’d be roasting him…

Bama defense does a good job against those teams that run an old school offense and not so great vs the spread scheme with the mobile and passing QB's.

I expect Cincy to give Bama fits and #9 will need to play very well (as usual) for Bama to win.

Vs the Spread teams it looks like the ILB'ers need to be safety's and the safety's need to be DB's that aren't afraid to tackle.

If Go Blue were to beat UGA and Bama win as well then I would expect Bama defense to play well vs UM just due to their 1968 offensive scheme.

Why in the world do you expect Cincy to give Bama fits?

Quoting SoG here:
quote:

Cincinnati is almost entirely dependent on their run game getting them ahead of the chains successfully. They are inept when they are forced into 2nd and 9+ or 3rd and 7+.

And.......they run the ball "efficiently" (4 yards, 5 yards, 4 yards, 6 yards, etc), but they do not run it explosively. And if they don't stay on schedule they fall apart.

TL/DR - We are a terrible matchup for their offense.

They have to run the ball for their offense to be effective and we excel at stopping the run.
