Re: Ridley getting too many looks. I would agree he is our most dynamic playmaker and we want to get him the ball, but when he's well covered and a couple of other guys are roaming free elsewhere and Jalen just throws the ball away when he sees Ridley covered...that's not exactly a winning play. Kudos for not forcing the ball into a bad spot but you've got to take those opportunities to others that present themselves. Go through your progressions. Only Jalen has shown he struggles mightily with that.

If Tua doesn't get a fair shot by next year, he'll be gone and we can forget the brother too.

edit: and yes, I do know how many games Jalen Hurts has won. We won a national title with Jay Barker, and no, Barker couldn't run like Hurts can.

Tua is getting a fair shot THIS year. Dude came in with the SEC offensive player of the year ahead of him and he knew that. Even still, he’s playing a lot his year and I suspect may play himself into a two QB system type deal if not by the end of this year than next year for sure. I think Saban has done a great job managing both guys and bringing them along so far.

I agree that he's gotten a fair shot to prove himself, and I think he has taken that opportunity and proven that he can be a better all around quarterback.

Will he be given the opportunity to be the starter next season? That's different. I think he will be given that opportunity, especially if our passing game fails us again this year in the quest for the national title, and honestly, with the talent we have right now, that should be the goal. It won't be long till we'll be just another team competing for the SEC title and hoping to compete for the national title, and a one loss season will be a very good one. Make hay while the sun shines.

To be honest, I'll be surprised if we don't start running into trouble recruiting the elite wide receivers going forward. They're not gonna be anxious to go somewhere that doesn't have a QB that can throw the ball at least on an average level.

His brother is already home sick so it may be issues other than playing time when it all shakes out.

I said that last year and was told I was foolish. I also said the receivers would eventually get frustrated, and was told the same. Stewart left early and Ridley is obviously pissed this year, but now the story is there must be some other reason.

edit: and yes, I do know Jeudy signed in this last class, but he's been recruited for a few years now, even when we did have a balanced offense and a consistently good downfield passing game.

Huddie, do you always listen to what everybody tells you?....you should only ALWAYS listen to what your parents, and I tell you.

Seriously, I believe we were all hoping to see vast improvement in Jalen's passing game from last year, but were being overly optimistic. I'm glad we have this problem, AND I'm glad it's Saban's problem and not mine!

ehehh. That reminds me of what Howard Schnellenberger told me in January 1990, or maybe it was December 1989.

When Curry moved on to Kentucky, and Bobby Bowden had said he wasn't interested in the UA job anymore (thanks to the botched interview the last time), I was hoping Schnellenberger would be our next coach. He was reportedly a front runner for the job, but The Atlanta Journal ran an article that Schnellenberger said he wouldn't be interested.

I called information (remember doing that?) and his home phone number was actually listed. I called the number and he answered the phone. The voice was unmistakable. He sounded a lot like Coach Bryant. I said "Coach Schnellenberger?" and he replied "Who's calling?" I told him I was an Alabama fan in Carrollton, Georgia and I just wondered why he wouldn't pursue the job at Alabama. He said "Who said I wouldn't be interested?" I told him about the AJC article and he said "Son, don't believe everything you read in the papers" I asked "So you would consider taking the job?" and he replied that he would certainly consider it but had not been contacted about it. That satisified me, though I was disappointed he hadn't been contacted, so I said my thanks and good bye. He seemed like a very nice fellow.

So, Coach Schnellenberger would agree with you. Don't always listen to what everybody tells you. A hell of a lot of them are full of bullshite anyway.

One of these days I will tell you about my 2 am conversation with Roy Adams. Yes, I was somewhat inebriated and so, apparently, was he. He assured me that he had nothing against The University of Alabama, and that we deserved better than Mike DuBose, yada yada yada. He was so nice that I couldn't be mad anymore and it actually became a pleasant conversation. Then there was the day I called the Memphis State coach, Tommy West, and subtly mocked him for declaring he would try to sign Alabama players, after the ncaa hit us in 2001. I pretended for a while to be the Dad of one of the players. He eventually hung up on me and he was pissed! That was a fun phone call, and hilarious. At least I enjoyed it. I don't think he did.

Oh well. I think I'll call Orgeron and chide him a little about the upcoming game next week. "Hello. Mr Orgeron? Yaw yaw yaw. Footbaw!"

You know, the more I hear Orgeron, though, the more I kind of like him. I hope we kick their arse, but he seems like a pretty nice fellow. I was happy that they beat Auburn and hope they pound them yearly!

So can you substantiate this a bit? Are you saying little Tua is unhappy at his high school?

Are you joking or what?

To be fair, I'd be a little upset if I was living the dream in Hawaii and then got uprooted to Alabaster.

But he asked for that because he actually did say that he was going after Alabama players, since they could transfer and play immediately due to the sanctions.

As noted, I initially pretended to be the Dad of a UA player that was privately considering a transfer out. I asked him how many times they'd played on tv the last couple of years, what bowls did they go to, how many players were drafted, etc. After a few of these questions he said "This may not be the place for your son", at which point I started laughing and asked him if he seriously thought any player was going to transfer from The University of Alabama to his Mickey Mouse program. He got livid, and when I called him "boy" in one of my comments, he really blew up. "Boy? You calling me a Boy??!!" It was soon after that he hung up on me. It was great.

edit: As we know, not a single player transferred from Alabama due to the sanctions.

Also pertinent to note that Tommy West played at Tennessee.

I called hey coach when I was younger when Gene Stallings was coach and got a ten minute lecture about how a running back has more to do than run the ball. I was appalled at the fact that Dennis Riddle was starting over a freshman Shaun Alexander because he was an upperclassman. It was clear that Shaun was a much, much better back than Riddle but coach said that running backs were responsible for blocking and receiving etc, etc. My gripe was that with Stallings as coach it wasn't often at all that a RB was doing anything other than run the ball. Gene made Les Miles look like Steve Spurrier.

So your saying it is understandable to you that the Tagovailoas would feel let down and disappointed by now and ready to return to Hawaii? Which begs the question, why did they move the Alabama in the first place?

I was looking for some specific information on little Tua being unhappy.

Once I would drive a thousand miles to visit a beach that I now live five minutes from and seldom visit. Priorities change and there is more to life than swaying palm trees and ukulele music.

I have been pretty vocal about the quarterback situation and p.oed some people on this board. Kind of a weird thing even to me because I've been on Alabama boards for 20 years or so and am generally considered a Bama sunshine pumper. I was on TiderInsider for about 17 years and I think Jake LaMotta, who is fairly new here but has been on TI for a good long time, will attest to the fact I rarely ever criticized players and coaches and was quick to defend them. Some posters here will find that hard to believe, but it is so. I'm not even certain, myself, why the qb situation is such a big thing to me this time, though it's mostly to do with the fact that I hope we can take advantage of all these great players because it can end all too soon.

All that bullshite said, and all that aside, I've read your posts on here and on the Rant and you just don't strike me as a bona fide UA fan. You seem to exhibit some of the same tactics I used to use myself, on rival boards: Create an account, lay low most of the time, then subtly irritate their fans at opportune times. Not sure why I ever did that, but it used to be kind of a sport on these football boards, and I notice that it still is for some people. I kind of think you are one of those people.

For an example: What do you insinuate when you ask why did they move to Alabama in the first place. They moved here to be near their son and watch him play at The University of Alabama. Yes, no, maybe?

We all have opinions, and it's really not even a big deal. Like I say, more a sport within the sport than anything else. Just an observation.
