Will Tua save a game for us?

yeah, yeah, the backup QB is the best player on the team.

If we get into another game like the Clemson game last year, when they are stacking the box and sitting on the short routes, not allowing Jalen to scramble and he's unable to make the throws to loosen them up, I want to see Tua come in off the bench and try and save the game. I'm sorry, but the kid can make throws Jalen just can't make. I'm not knocking Jalen. He's a good QB and a great leader and a fine young man, but as a passer, his skills are limited. Tua hasn't found his limit yet throwing the ball. He's deadly. And he can throw on the move. In the game Saturday against Tennessee, that was a big league throw he made rolling away from pressure, keeping his eyes downfield and hitting Ruggs in stride for a TD. Jalen can't do that. I'm not saying Jalen should be benched. I'm saying there's going to come a time when we need plays Jalen can't make with his legs. I hope Saban has the balls to go to the bullpen and trot Tua out there. Yes, he's young and he's inexperienced and he makes mistakes, like the INT against UT. But he also makes beautiful throws that are laser accurate too. We know how it ends if the offense can't even muster first downs. I'll take my chances with the rookie gunslinger rather than go down without a fight.

I believe there have been times this season when Tua could have provided a spark.

3rd qtr of the A&M game and most of the first half against UT come to mind.

Jalen just isn’t getting through his reads well and still tends to be late with a lot of throws. I’m not sure he can make drastic improvements on those things after 23 starts.

I'd rather eat a few of these than deal with this hypothetical.

Not this season, unless Jalen gets injured.

They stacked the box, and we still gashed them. We should have never stopped running the ball.

And Jalen scrambled for a 30 yard go-ahead touchdown with 2 minutes to go in that game.

To answer your question, I doubt it.

Auburn had just as good a defense last year as they do this year. We had 500 yards against them.

The only time our offense sputtered last year was in Death Valley and once Kiffin started interviewing for/took the FAU job and the Sark aftermath.

How many different ways can we make a thread about Tua and Hurts?

I'd rather not see him make a beautiful throw to a defender for a pick six.

I'm not knocking him, I'm as high as anyone on Tua and his ceiling is whatever he wants it to be. But Jalen hasn't exactly done anything to cost us a game and Tua has only come in in garbage time.

You mean the A&M game where we went right down the field and scored a TD to start the second half? Jalen was 3/3 for 49 yards and a TD on that drive. You can even watch that TD [link=(here)]https://youtu.be/J_s0kjYP-Qs?t=20m4s[/link]. I'm no coach, but he appears to come off his first read to hit 11 for the TD. The next drive was the drive Foster dropped an easy catch and then fumbled on the next play.

Jalen's drives against Tennessee:
-TD
-Started at the 2 yd line. Got two 1st downs then Bo run for 5, Bo run for 2, Jalen bootleg that UT covered well for a negative run, Punt
-Incomplete pass to Sims that was dislodged from his hands by UT, Bo run for 0, Jalen run for 6, Punt
-TD
-TD
Half
-TD

I guess we should forget the next drive of the UT game where Tua threw an INT to a LB that was spying him and literally did not move before he made the pick?

I assume you mean regular season because we looked rough in the peach bowl.

Just wait until next fall after a spring game when QBs are two-hand touch and Tua lights it up. If/when Jalen trots out against Louisville, some of our posters will melt like they are Arky or Tennessee fans.

So you'd want to give the ball to a true freshman QB in the biggest game of the year because of what you think a true freshman QB in the biggest game from last year wasn't able to accomplish?

Am I reading this right?

Well to be fair, there is nothing that says Tua can't win the job for next year this offseason. But not point in discussing that halfway through the current season.

He may well win it. If he does, then that is great and nobody will melt. If he doesn't, just sit back and watch how bad it will get.

If Jalen is the starter next fall it means he only got better which I do not think anyone will have an issue with.
