The way that I see it, 15 of the 22 we lost took a step down. I’m still considering Ole Miss a step down. So that tells me we got rid of some folks that perhaps weren’t panning out as elite D1 material.
Of the guys we are taking in, 12 of 17 are stepping up. So, we aren’t just taking guys who have talent but couldn’t see the field at an elite school because either they were miss evaluated or have character flaws. I am also choosing to believe that we are taking production over potential. Otherwise we are taking very young guys who just didn’t care for where they were.
Furthermore, given that our favorite players this year were Washington transfers, I also choose to believe that The Farmer is a good evaluator.

Anyone looking at “rankings” for the Portal is wasting time, and will be misinformed. The Portal Is about filling needs. Teams that signed 25 players regardless of quality will be “ranked” higher than Bama.
You don’t know how on3’s portal rankings work. They rank based on net improvement to your roster - not in comparison to other teams.
Auburn is ranked 12th on 247 because of what you’re describing, but On3 has them at 57th because despite signing a bunch of transfers, Auburn’s roster has gotten less talented.
On3’s team portal rankings are much better than 247’s.
Regarding the better schematic fit of the players, I agree and said that in my original post.
I just think we have different standards for what constitutes an A.
If our portal class is an A, how would you rank a class that fills some needs and adds game changing players? An A+++++?
C is an okay grade, and this is just an okay portal group.

Not really. They just subtract from your score based on how many players you lost and their rankings. There's no consideration that maybe losing those players actually improves your team. For example they have Formby ranked the #5 tackle in the portal. So we got dinged. That's laughable.

Probably one of the most overlooked and underrated additions was the kicker from Marshall. I know Talty finished the year strong, but the Marshall guy appears to have more distance and maybe we won’t have to hold our breath on every FG try with him.
I expect it to be an open and very interesting competition for the starting kicker spot this spring and summer.

Know most of the people that left, since we were so involved in their recruitment but have no idea who these players are that are coming in. Exception is Haywood, because he had committed to us for awhile.
Don’t really care who’s coming or going anymore, will celebrate those do well on the field and give their best, forget the rest.
