Plus a follow up question: saw this Saturday on the Bama pro sports page. What’s up with the instability on the diving side of swim/dive?

Yeah, been a complete shite show since Pat retired. He was at bama for like 29 years. Dude I had hoped would make it back into coaching for us passed unexpectedly 2 years back. Former 10m platform ncaa champion.

I honestly just don't know a thing about diving coaches, as to what makes one better than another. I haven't even followed where the departed coaches ended up. Perhaps they all got an opportunity at their alma mater or straight up quit coaching altogether.

I will say i was a little rough on our divers because of the tie for 2nd... apparently one got injured day 1 and withdrew. I may have been slow noticing that fact, but i know he was good for 1 damn point Long story short I was judging points based on 3 divers instead of 2. So I'll own that misplaced comment.

Moars, just watched the replay of swim & dive championships.

First want to say, I was excited to see Alabama competing for medals in most swim events. I don’t ever remember us being that competitive in the pool.

Also, nice rowdy representing Alabama.

Question for you, why do swimmers slap their bodies before the race?

funny you ask that. My top responses are: bicep on lat slap makes an awesome sound, nervous energy relief, and gets a little blood flowing pre race. Kinda like track guys squatting and jumping before a race, and I've definitely seen that behavior amongst those who swim breaststroke. Place me next to a pool, lake, on a boat, getting into or out of the shower and i will subconsciously do it a time or 2

If you had told me we'd finish (tied for) 2nd and 3rd, i would've guaranteed it would've been the women finishing 2nd and the men 3rd. Best finishes by either squad since the early/mid 80s, both under coach Don Gambril... our pool's namesake.

We've had men's team finish 5th a SECs, but top 10 at NCAAs. This squad doesn't have the relay points to do top 10 this year. That unfortunately sucks, but that was where we'd feast on our points. Losing Matt King (to UVA) in the purge is really noticeable here.

I really like the women being a tad better than top 10. Several great individual events and 2nd-5th seed in 4 of the 5 relays. It'd be great to see 5th like last year, but I'm not gonna put too high of a goal on people I don't actually train with.

College swimming really caters to sprinters with the relays. It pains me knowing winning the 400 IM is only half the points of 4 guys only swimming a 50 each, but damn do I love watching some good 200 relay races.

Alabama Track and Field Earns Five Medals on Day One of SEC Indoor Championships

Alabama track and field got the 2022 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships off to a strong start, coming away with two gold and three bronze medals on Friday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas.

The Crimson Tide picked up wins from Bobby Colantonio Jr. (men's weight throw) and Mercy Chelangat (women's 5,000 meters) and third-place finishes from Chelsea Igberaese (women's weight throw), Emmanuel Ineh (men's long jump) and the men's distance medley relay of Jace Jones, Gabe Serrano, Jacob Lamb and Eliud Kipsang.

Rookie Hillary Cheruiyot crossed the line first in the men's 5,000 meters, finishing well ahead of the pack and was awarded the gold, but following a post-race protest, he was disqualified for stepping on or over the curb for two consecutive steps and his points were wiped off the board.

Both of the Tide's Friday night wins came in dominant fashion. Colantonio Jr. earned his title with a throw of 23.09 meters, more than a meter and a half better than second place. Chelangat crossed the line in a time of 15:43.64, four seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

Igberaese opened the Tide's day by setting a new school record of 22.46 meters on the way to a bronze-medal finish in the women's weight throw. It marked the fourth time this season that Igberaese has bettered the UA standard. Ineh used a career-best mark of 7.87 meters to take third in the men's long jump, a mark that ranks him third all-time at Alabama.

Jones, Serrano, Lamb and Kipsang combined to post a time of 9:34.74, to take third, more than a second ahead of the rest of the pack.

Alabama's men were dropped into second place with 27 points after the disqualification in the 5,000m, while the UA women are in fourth with 19 points heading into Saturday.
