Man if we can get Primo and Miles then somehow find a decent big im would be so happy. Man Miles has skills and would be a problem with the right training. Im all for bringing in guys from the east coast.

Yeah I like Miles a lot, 6'7 forward that played a lot of point guard this year. Can pass, dribble, good shooter. I'm not sure how he isn't getting more interest. TAMU and LSU have shown interest but haven't offered. Oats and Hodgson great at finding these underrated gems, they literally made a living off of it at Buffalo.

This offense would be perfect for him too, he would be able to play guard.

Looks like his offers so far are Us, Georgetown, Xavier, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Seton Hall.

Top 20 Transfers Who Might Have to Sit Next Season:

Here are the ones we've been in contact with

quote:

1) Landers Nolley II, 6-7, 230, SF, RS Fr., Virginia Tech
2019-20 stats: 15.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg
Scout’s take: “Definitely has scoring ability. Really fell off the second half of the [2019-20] season. Maybe he didn’t like it there, but it’s hard to imagine anyone getting him more shots than Mike Young did. He had total freedom.”

2) D.J. Carton, 6-2, 190, PG, Fr., Ohio State
2019-20 stats: 10.4 ppg
Scout’s take: “Scoring guard with elite athleticism. Needs to improve decision-making, game-management skills to become point guard. Extremely hard to stop when he is on his left hand with space to get going downhill. Tons of potential and upside.”

4) Jamarius Burton, 6-4, 200, SG, So., Wichita State
2019-20 stats: 10.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.4 apg
Scout’s take: “Tough, physical guard [who] could play the point and combo — was really a mismatch for other guards because of his physicality. Became a go-to option for their team, particularly in late-game situations.”

5) Trey McGowens, 6-4, 190, G, So., Pittsburgh
2019-20 stats: 11.5 ppg, 3.6 apg
Scout’s take: “Great in transition, athletic scorer. Defensively, looks for steals. Very good in ball screens, but was foul prone — a problem if he got going.”

15) Joshua Morgan, 6-11, 195, C, Fr., Long Beach State
2019-20 stats: 8.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.5 bpg
Scout’s take: “Joshua Morgan to me is someone who has an extremely high ceiling when it comes to his game. He has intangibles that you can’t teach; defensive timing as a shot blocker, length and quick-twitch athleticism. Strength and conditioning are areas of weakness that he has to address. Above-average skillset, with ball-handling being his weakest. Nice touch from the outside, so he could stretch the defense a little out to 15 feet consistently. A redshirt year will do him wonders to address all these weaknesses and just heighten his strengths.”

Depends on where the grad transfer is coming from and how many years of eligibility he has left. I'd much rather have a JuCo transfer with 3 years to play 2 than a guy from a 1 bid mid-major league who only has one year left to play. If you're talking about someone from a multi-bid mid-major or power conference who has 2 years of eligibility left then give me the grad transfer.

My wishlist on players we have either been in contact with or offered are

1. Josh Primo
2. Justin Turner
3. Jordan Bruner
4. Keon Ellis
5. Landers Nolley
6. Trey McGowens
7. Jamarious Burton
8. Darius Miles

Any of these guys would be great additions. Landers Nolley,Trey McGowens and Jamarious Burton would be higher if they weren't likely gonna have to sit out a year.

Hayden Koval would be 2nd but we haven't contacted him yet as far as I know, I hope we do, he would be the perfect big for this system and would be eligible immediately.

Koval interview with some highlights.

I think after what these kids have gone through, the NCAA would have to have a reason NOT to grant them a waiver. My guess is everyone will get a free pass next year.

Are you guys not surprised we havent contacted more bigs that are in the portal? The only ones I have seen us linked to are Marfo and Joshua Morgan. Marfo wasnt a fit for this system at all and Morgan would have to sit out a year if he doesn't get a waiver.

I spent a few hours the other night looking at bigs that were in the portal and there are a few that would be a good fit that I’m surprised we haven’t contacted. Maybe we have contacted more of them than we know and it just hasn't been reported.

Yeah that's possible, and I hope you're right. Can't really recruit them like they are for sure gonna be eligible though, especially after what happened with Quinerly last year.

I’ve been concerned all year that they haven’t seemed to be going after any bigs.

Which is why I posted James Rojas at C yesterday on my depth chart. 5 guys at a time that can shoot, pass, dribble, and drive. Oats doesn’t care how tall you are

I agree that right now Rojas and Davis are probably our best options at the five.

The additions of Rojas and Ambrose next year who are both 6'8 should help with rebounding. Gary is a solid rebounder too.

We are recruiting a couple of forwards with some height too, Bruner and Darius Miles are both 6'7.

I just see a grad transfer out there like Koval who is 7'0, averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game, while shooting 34% from three and don't understand why we aren't going after him.

In his career so far he scored 21 vs Georgetown, 16 vs Indiana, 21 vs Oklahoma State, so it's not like he couldn't handle the step up in competition.

I trust Oats though, he has a good plan I am sure.

“We’re looking to have at least one committed this week — that’s our hope,” Oats said Tuesday.

Top-100 combo-guard Joshua Primo, a 6-6 four-star wing from Ontario, Canada, is scheduled to announce his commitment between Alabama and Creighton at some point Friday.

Alabama is also hot on the trail of several transfers, including Bowling Green graduate guard Justin Turner and junior college combo-guard Keon Ellis of Florida SouthWestern State College.

“We’re looking at every possible angle there is,” Oats said. “We’re talking to high school kids that we’ve been tracking for a while, we’re talking to JUCO guys we’ve been tracking for a while, and we’re talking to transfers that just became available in the last week or two. We don’t know how this is going to end up looking.”

Is Hoval the Yale grad transfer? Would love for us to get him. Seems like he’d be a good fit with his skill set.

“We are working the phones hard, me and all three assistants, and we’re trying to get this roster to look a lot more like what we need it to look like to play the way we want to play,” Oats said.

While Oats didn’t give an exact number in terms of how many openings he’s expecting to have to fill, based on his comments Tuesday, Alabama could add between 3-5 new players to the roster this offseason. And that’s regardless of what happens with starting guards Kira Lewis Jr. and Petty, who are both entering their names into the NBA Draft pool while still maintaining eligibility by not hiring agents, Oats said Tuesday.

That’s Bruner, he isn’t a big he is 6’8 205. Good rebounder for his size though.
