He was a better rebounder than Smith last year statistically.

Maybe some long rebounds came his way cause I never saw him mix it up with the bigs down low

Stole this pic from the rant. It's the Auburn beat writer, Marcello, and Pearl

What some of you are missing is this is basically the Spread offense in football coming to basketball. The big center is the Spread equivalent of a fullback: superfluous. Yeah, you can still play that way, but the Spread offenses are going to give you hell until everyone catches up. That may be a bit of an oversimplification but y’all understand what I’m driving at.

I do . Might as well play 5 guards if that is the case. Look guys I am not trying to split hairs here , just IMO you have to have at least one player that can somewhat protect the paint and give a little up offensively

That’s a pretty good analogy. The great thing about Oats is even though his teams score over 100 points in a game on the regular, he still preaches toughness and defense. Buffalo was 27th in defensive efficiency.

If Reese is our big in the lineup we are going to need to score 100 to have a shot at winning

Is the D really that much better with Galin though? I mean really?

We aren’t arguing that Reese is great at D, we’re just arguing that Smith isn’t really any better.

I hope Hawkins & Fleming surprise is.

Well I think defensively Galin is better. If you want to talk overall then you have an argument there I am just like you guys, excited, want to win and don’t give a rats arse who plays if we win

I haven’t watched any Bama game in the last 2 seasons where Galin was even close to average at protecting the paint.

I want to win too, I guess we’ll see what Oats decides.

For me? Just spacing. If Galin can come in and rebound and defend at an average level, I’m all for him. Otherwise give me spacing.

Not picking at you but I haven’t watched one game where Reese’s man did not blow by him consistently . They had Donta to help out some but obviously he is gone. I think both are slow but Gavin is a little less slow on defense and my only reason for siding with him right now, a little more bulk which is needed in conference play . Could you see Reese matching up with a Naz Reid type body and banging ??

Really no reason to argue about it, both are gonna have to play a lot unless Hawkins comes along really fast.

My prediction to start off the season is that Reese gets about 25 minutes a game and Smith gets around 15, may even be more of a 50/50 split that that. It’s hard for a big man to play more than 25 minutes in an uptempo system.

By conference play Hawkins may be a regular in the rotation if he progresses well.
