You know, of all the transfers during the past 4 years..
King
Kessens
Giddens
Collins
Davis
AJ Jr
Bola
I might have to say Edwards would be just behind Bola in terms of production.
Damn, we really have struck out on Xfers.

The transfers Avery got aren't near on the level of Bolden or Quinerly.
Transfers most of the time are a good thing, if you get talented ones who fit what you want to do. Texas Tech won the NC last year and two of their best players, Tariq Owens, and Matt Mooney transferred there.
Most of Avery's transfers didn't pan out but that's not an accurate reflection of the current CBB landscape. A lot of the programs that have been making it to the sweet 16 are making a living off of transfers.

Quinerly, no (though just in terms of prospect, he hasn't done anything in CBB yet)
Bolden? I dunno, Mack had put up some production in his year at Texas. And Ricky Tarrant had been a very solid offensive player at Tulane.
Bolden is a perfect fit for what we do though, and that's what I'm most excited about with Oats. We have a specific system and he wants guys who fit in that system. When you have that, the transfer system can really be a big help.

Sure will be nice to get some transfers that put up nice numbers for us. It'll mean we finally have coaches that know how to develop players

Bolden? I dunno
If you extrapolate Bolden's stats out to 40 minutes, and do the same with every player on our team, his production last year was higher.
Beetles per 40 minute stats -
Fr - 24 pts 2 asst 5 reb 2 stl
So - 20 pts 2 asst 4 reb 2 stl
Jr - 23 pts 5 asst 5 reb 2 stl
Here are Kira and Petty's stats from last year extrapolated to 40 minutes -
Kira - 17 pts 3 asst 3 reb 1 stl
Petty - 14 pts 4 asst 3 reb 1 stl
Bolden was playing against power 5 competition too, not D2 or Juco teams like some transfers.
He should be one of our best players from day one.

Ive been burned too many times by the Grant/Avery teams that Im not gonna assume anything about any player until I see them do it in Crimson.
I do think Oats is the right guy though and am excited.

Grant/Johnson PTSD. Completely understandable.

Anyone heard anything new on Quinerly? If he is visiting anywhere else, when he plans on committing? I can't find anything, other than what's been posted in here, and people on twitter speculating he may commit to us this weekend.
Seems like we are the clear leader, not sure what he's waiting on.

He will be committed by end of weekend.
RollHoopsRoll said this and he 99% of the time is right.
He said RJ Hampton was going overseas a full month in advance of his announcement.

Yeah I remember that. He seems to have good info.

Agree - he's a great add. Very good offensive player that fits perfectly into the system.

Hopefully. But if we're being honest, it remains to be seen.
I couldn't wait for giddens to finally get PT at Bama. Highly ranked out of HS, (with similar production as Q at Nova)
Same thing with King coming from Memphis. (Yes, i know there was health issues, still he never flashed anything when he played here)
Both were absolute flops. Hopefully it had to do with the lack of our coaching development.

Don't think we have landed a McDonald's A-A from the hotbed cut throat NY-NJ area, ever. That in itself is huge success for us. Can you guys think of anyone?

No, we generally don't even attempt to recruit up there. And this is a bit unique given he's a transfer, but still probably wouldn't have even sniffed us without Oats and some connections up there.
There's no downside on that one. If it doesn't work so what, no biggie.

Giddens was a walking foul. He would literally play 5 minutes and get 3 fouls. Never got a chance here to show what he could do because he couldn’t stay on the floor long enough.
Hope he has better luck at his next stop, he looks like he could be a good player if he could stay out of foul trouble.

Obviously.
With his size, you would've hoped for some sort of offensive presence to offset his horrible fouling tendencies.
I have to side with SoG. Make me a believer when it comes to BB transfers to Bama. I'll pleasantly be surprised if Q and Beetle find their niche with us, and play to their max potential.
With that said, I expect Oats to maximize our current roster talent. But it will be a different culture for them, that's for sure.

I don’t think Alabama is cursed when it comes to transfers or anything. I kind of get what y’all are saying though, just because he was good at WV doesn’t mean he will be good at Alabama. I have more questions about Quinerly than I do Bolden.
The main problem is that Avery nor Grant are very good coaches. It wasn’t just transfers that underperformed under Johnson, it was everyone on the team sans Sexton, and even he would’ve been better under a better coach.

Hmm.
There hasn't been many for sure. The last I remember even from that area, was Jamal Faulkner. (mcdonalds AA? Not sure if that was even a thing)
However, Faulkner came to Bama as a Grad transfer from AZ St.
Kid grew up in Brooklyn. 6'7ish small forward.
It was around 95. We got slapped by Big country that year in the 2nd round Ncaas. Faulkner was pretty big in that game, even in a losing effort.
I still remember Raftery oozing over Falkner during his commentary(I think he's from NJ) during that game.
Anyway, that's the only I can think of just from that area regardless of rank. Those guys play with a different kind of swagger.

We've never caught a damn break in the NCAA tournament. It's amazing

I remember losing that game because my brain links it with my sweet arse Final Four in Seattle black basketball from Pizza Hut.
The 2 great mid-90s NCAAT traditions : Pizza Hut basketball and the Mountain Dew under the cap game.
