Oats has said that he wants to have 4 shooters on the floor at once. Which means either his big or PG are allowed not to be a good shooter, but the other 4 ideally are in his system.

I don't see where Jones fits in, he is definitely not a shooter, pg, or a big.

I don't think he forces Jones out, just don't see him fitting into the new system at all.

Off topic but Ive been reading through TideFans......that may be the worst Bama Message Board out there.

One of the few times I went to Tidefans back in the day I got a computer virus. Horrible site.

I feel like since Hawkins couldn’t visit on such short notice, part of the reason Oats flew to Cali was to take the visit to him. It’s not ideal, but I guarantee you admissions has a DVD or a thumb drive with an interactive tour on it. Best thing you could do for him at the 11th hour.

There's a misconception that his Buffalo players were great shooters. They weren't exceptional. Herb, with some coaching and confidence can shoot "good enough." Especially since, CNO is going to have to use what he has in year one.

Yeah, even the Buffalo fan’s post said that they weren’t a great shooting team, but they put a lot of them up. Watching that shooting drill he has on YouTube, makes it unsurprising. They were throwing up all kinds of bricks. Herb can get to where he can knock them down decently enough for the defense to respect.

Herb is 12 of 40 from 3 in the last two seasons. That's horrible. Averages out to just above 27%. Not to mention he is a turnover machine and a below 50% free throw shooter.

And hopefully speeding things up will help Herb and others not think, just do

None of that contradicts what I said.

That’s also a very small sample size. I agree his FT shooting is concerning, but he has such a consistency issue with his form on FTs that it HAS to be mostly mental. His form doesn’t look terrible or super inconsistent when he shoots from midrange or deep.

I think everyone would agree that if he can't shoot a better percentage he won't play much for Oats.

You don't really have to shoot that well from 3 to still be worth covering though. If you can hit just a third of them, that's still 50% effective from 2.

Lets bring this Harvey kid in. I got the feeling when he was talking to Wimp yesterday that Nate is gonna ask a couple of these guys that dont fit to leave. Id assume Herbert,Galin, and Diante Wood will be asked.

Just my assumption...and you know what they say about those.

Why would he ask any of those to leave lol. Wood can shoot it and Galin is our only under the basket big.

I’ve been trying to figure out Byrne’s choice and get inside his head a little so we can better predict his choices going forward.

The only reason I can come up with for him going with Oats over fan choice Forbes is Forbes connections with the little NCAA run-in Bruce had at UT. IIRC, Forbes was implicated in that by Pearl but nothing was ever proven. But Byrne was taking no chances considering current events. I really can’t come up with anything else except the media is really loving our hire. I’ve heard pundits on ESPN radio just slobbering over it.

Oats said a lot of their points came in transition of defensive turnovers. Herb can force turnovers. He will play. His team shot well because they got open shots due to ball movement. I expect everyones percentage to go up.

I think Oats is more well known and Byrne has had his eye on him since last year. I think that's all it is.

he was highly recommended by people in the biz that Greg reached out to. Especially Izzo. A recommendation from Izzo is good enough for me
