Don’t think we’ll lose to Auburn at home. We had their Final 4 team on the ropes with Avery last year at home before blowing it late. They lose ALOT this year and we return our best players plus some, along with a coach who knows what he’s doing

I don't really think so either, but seemed like too much of a homer move to putting us winning every home game. I really think it's a possibility that we do win them all though.

I do think Auburn will still be a tournament team, if we do lose at home I could most likely see it being to them or LSU.

I just hope we can lock up the mediocre/bad games and take care of them by double digits, instead of losing to most of them like Avery did. Then win a few of the bigger games with a few losses as well and you have a good resume

Saw an Oats quote about that recently, blowing out the teams you’re supposed to, I’ll find it later when I get time. But yeah that was one of my biggest pet peeves of the Avery era, always playing down to our competition.

Here is the quote, and this is from when he was at Buffalo, he was already referencing Nick Saban.

quote:

There is bombast here. There is an urgency to beat everyone at everything, badly, and a healthy presumption about the ability to do so. It’s crystallized once you draw in close. Only then do you notice the serrated edges.

“You’ll see Nick Saban go crazy when (Alabama is) up three touchdowns in the fourth quarter,” Oats says. “Well, that’s what’s starting to irritate me. We’re up 28, for instance, at St. Bonaventure. We’re supposed to win that game by 35 to 40. Well, we don’t. We won it by 18 because we don’t keep our foot on the gas pedal.”

A few things I found interesting from Oats interview today

*He referenced that we need more guards to play how he wants to play, which is pretty obvious, he will have to adapt to the players we have this year.

*He referred to Rojas as a Versatile 4, which I found interesting, Rojas played mostly 5 in juco but definitely has the skill set to be a 4, and it sounds like Oats sees him as a 4 for us, though he does have enough "versatility" to slide over to the 5 when needed.

*He really talked up Galin Smith's rebounding and defensive ability, which leads me to believe Smith at least early will probably be the starting 5.

*He refereed to Alex Reese as a big, not sure of this means he sees him as a 5 or not, but still interesting to me.

Saw a tweet from Drew DeArmond that insinuated he is hearing things about a possible commitment. Not sure how connected he is.

I’ve heard you saying he played the 5, but the only game I saw him play he was at the 4 the majority of the time including as a starter. He definitely seems like he has more the traits of a small-ball 4 than 5. Not saying he’ll never play there, but 4 seems to be the better play for him.

I think that’s the only real position for him in this offense. People keep talking about needing to have shooting at the 4, but Nate’s offense relies more on speed than great shooters, and having Reese out there with another big just doesn’t make sense. He’s the most slow-footed guy on the team.

That's interesting. I watched a few of their games, never saw him play anything but the 5. Either way, whichever he plays he is a solid rebounder. Had a bunch of double doubles in Juco and averaged around 8 rebs a game. Also led his team in steals, assists, and scoring, he is a good all around player, I am excited about him.

We are pretty loaded at the 4, Reese, Jones, Gary, and Rojas. We are more thin at the 5 with really Galin Smith the only semi proven player there, Rojas will probably play both depending on the situation.

Hawkins is gonna be really good but Oats usually doesn't give freshmen a ton of minutes, Shackleford and Forbes will have to play a lot out of necessity.

He listed Alabama, Pitt, Georgia, and Arky as his top 4 a couple of weeks ago, assumed he is gonna visit Arky and Georgia too but haven't heard. If he doesn't he could commit to us very soon, I think we are the clear leader right now. As good as I hear our visit went I was really surprised he didn't commit on the visit.
