His teams struggled out of the gate almost every season outside of 2012.

We cost ourselves 2 NCAAT with miserable losses in Nov/Dec

The only VCU coach that has succeeded post VCU is Wade, really, and he was only at VCU 1 season.

Capel, Grant and Smart all failed in their big job post-VCU

Wade is playing the game. He got caught, but he knows that he needs the players to compete. Without the bought players, Wade would be in trouble. Just my opinion

Here is an article from 2014, talking about Grant’s recruiting and player development. It’s Friday night, I’m not sure anyone is bored enough

Most of the games we have lost, we have built up a pretty good lead around halftime only to lose that lead later on. It’s almost as the team loses their fire and tenacity as the game goes on. We must get that back.

This is in the article. This hurts me to my core

The thing was that after about year 3 or 4 most wanted Grant fired how can you recruit well when people stop coming to games. He cited lack of fan support hurting his recruiting when he left. Oats is getting roasted already by the same bad section of our fanbase. The majority of our fanbase are FOGs with no idea about anything basketball related.

Meh, we filled the hell out of Coleman anytime they gave/give us anything remotely positive.

The year we lost to St Peters and Iowa early and won all those SEC games the building was packed and rocking for the entire season. Same with 2012 and 2013. People didn't show up in 2014 because they won 13 games.

Alabama basketball fans show up more than almost any similar SEC program other than Tennessee who has great support. Our fan support is better than LSU, Georgia, South Carolina hell even Florida. None of this shite is on fans.

I wish you would start making as many excuses for fans as you do the players and the coaches.

The crowd wasn’t great the other night but guess what? People are dealing with flooding and washed out roads. Difficult to go to the game unless you have a boat. Since you like excuses, there’s one for the fans

We do have a lot of good basketball fans I'm just saying the majority are FOGs. We have a lot of diehard bball fans that have been put through the ringer the last 15 or so years like most in this thread. You have to admit though that the majority of our fanbase only supports the bball program when its winning and its hard to get it turned around to where we are winning without a lot of fan support. Once Oats gets it turned around a lot will jump on board but he is gonna catch hell til that happens. He already said he stopped getting on twitter and I cant blame him at all.

I think that we have a billion football fans and the "extra" football fans are generally just that - football fans. I want to kick them in the nuts too but I just don't even think about them when talking about our fanbase, because while other places have problems with their core fanbase not caring about basketball we really don't.

Our core fanbase cares about basketball on some level (some more than others), where as at Georgia or LSU a large chunk of them just don't at all. It makes a big difference, and it's why we fill a 15K gym on a Saturday after we only do something small like win 2 or 3 straight games.

The program just needs to fvckin win. I'm sick of hearing about the arena or fans or whatever random arse nonsense comes up. Just fvckin win. Teams have won consistently with worse facilities and much worse fan support. All of these excuses can kiss my arse,

The fact that people haven't just lost interest in the sport over the last 10-15 years like they have at LSU is a damn miracle and speaks to the deep support this alumni base has for basketball.

It's not the football fanbase but there is a hardcore and committed fanbase that grew up on good basketball and sticks by this bum program through every false hope.

We’ve been abused so many times. I remember sitting in the car, listening to Pearl’s directional Wisconsin team put us out of the tournament. I thought that was about as low as I could get. Haaaaaaaaaaaa
