Bama Basketball is going to make me have grey hair before I turn 30.

Idk what's going on with Retin, but he is struggling badly.

We are very lucky the refs screwed Jacksonville State. They did everything they could to help us win.

I was wondering if I was the only one thinking Jacksonville was getting screwed lol. I don't mind it though, I'm sure we'll get the screw job later.

8-3 with a chance to go 9-3 into SEC play.

It ma be ugly in year one, but does that meet, surpass, or fall short of your expectations for Avery's first year?

It's much better than my expectations. We are winning close games that we normally choke away.

I don't really have anything positive to say about last night except at least we won.

Of all the poor individual and team statistics from last night, including being out rebounded again, the most surprising and damning to me is the fact that we had 0 fast break points.

Hopefully Hale realizes how selfish his actions were and becomes a leader for the rest of the season.

We need his scoring ability if we are going to continue having a successful season.

Coleman reverted back to his former self last night. Took six shots, five from behind the arc, and missed them all. Three assists and five turnovers.

Just piss poor all the way around. We will get embarrassed regularly in conference games playing like that. Hopefully we look a lot better on Saturday.

Head Coach Avery Johnson

Opening Statment:

“This was a game that I had circled on my calendar
that I was really concerned about. Even before the
season, when you go and look at all the games coming
out of a Christmas break, you know guys go home for a
couple of days and especially if your team is in a pretty
good rhythm and even though we lost the Oregon
game, we were in a pretty good rhythm going into
the break. So, to take off those four or five days and
come back, reconvene and get ready to play against a
dangerous team like Jacksonville State – I was really
concerned about this game. We had a chance to win it
in regulation. We didn’t. We struggled in the second
half in so many different ways. We struggled in the first
half, but this was great practice because I think we are
going to have a couple more overtime games probably
this year and the way our team responded in overtime
– we made our free throws. We did a good job of getting
quality shots, so I told the guys I’m awfully proud
of them.”

On Arthur Edwards’ performance:

“We had great leadership. Arthur came back. He had
ten points during a stretch there. He made a couple of
threes for us and that kept us going in the first half. We
didn’t dig ourselves such a big hole because of Arthur’s
presence on the floor, and then in the second half
and overtime, Jimmy came on for us just covering the
basket, blocking shots and making it difficult. He had
five blocks tonight and he got some great energy going
and we got him the ball a little bit more inside on time
and on target. So, good leadership from some of our
upperclassmen.”

On Riley Norris’s performance:

“Riley has been Mr. Everything for us and even when
his numbers aren’t as glaring as they are tonight with
a double-double, he’s out there. He sets screens. He’s
always in the right place at the right time. He passes.
He makes entry passes. He guards some of the tougher
offensive players on the opposing team. So, I can go on
and on and write a book about him. So, he’s been fun
to coach just like the rest of our guys, and I’m really
proud of his development from the first day that I’ve
met him.”

On covering Jacksonville State’s Malcolm Drumwright:

“We’ve been doing a good job all year on guys coming
in that are coming in that are dominant scorers
for their team. We had a guy [Jimmy] Gaven that we
played against when they [Winthrop] came in and he
had 38 points against North Carolina State and we
slowed him down. [Malcolm] Drumwright was a big
focal point of our scouting report. The only thing is
that Jerad Hamilton made a few shots on us that we
weren’t expecting in the first half, but again with a
guy like Retin offensively wasn’t great, but defensively
he was stellar. One of our stellar defenders on Drumwright.”

#4 Arthur Edwards, Guard

On bouncing back with a win after a tough loss against
Oregon:

“It was a great feeling. It’s always a great feeling to get
a W. We had a tough loss, but we showed character
and bounced back. We stayed together and got the W
tonight.”

#1 Riley Norris, Forward

On his double-double performance in tonight’s game:

“It feels good. I thank my teammates and everybody
that pitched in because those rebounds in most part
were just effort. Guys had their guys boxed out so I just
had to go and make the play.”

Head Coach James Green

Opening Statement:

“First of all, I want to credit Alabama for making the
plays they needed to make down the stretch, and doing
what it takes to win a game. They came out in the second
half and immediately got after us and got separation.
I thought that was probably the stretch that was
difference in the game, along with the overtime. You
have to give them all the credit for being a team that
played through and came up with a win against a team
that, probably on paper, everyone would think they
should win. These are some difficult games to play in
during this time of the year.

“I also give my team a lot of credit for coming in and
doing the job on the backboard, which is what we
talked about they needed to do all year long. We had
the right pace in the first half. There were a couple of
times in the first half where I thought the pace was
starting to get a little out of character for us to have a
chance and be in the game. We regained that and we
also regained it again by making some shots in the last
seven minutes of regulation.

“Obviously, we would love to have the ball back with
that last seven or eight seconds on the clock and see if
we could get out of here before overtime. That’s normally
how you win a game like this if you’re somewhat
of the underdog coming in. We didn’t have an opportunity
to get that. I knew when we got into overtime,
with the foul trouble we had, some of our playmakers
were in a pretty tough position. We had turnovers.
We’ve had that maybe a couple of times this year. We’ve
been a team that controls the ball and gets attempts
at the basket every single time. I thought that would
be important. We got out with 18 turnovers. Some of
them were in the overtime. That’s too many turnovers
for us to have an opportunity to win against a team like
that”

On players being tired in overtime:

“I think some of it was running out of gas. Some of it
was being able to consistently make plays with the personnel
we had left in overtime. Their guys continued
to play hard and made it very difficult for our guys to
get good looks at the basket on the offensive end. We
tried to get in the paint and tried to draw fouls, which
means we got shots and tried to get to the line. That
part didn’t work out.”

On Malcolm Drumwright’s game:

“One of things that happened in our last home game is
that Malcolm scored 28 points. I’m sure they watched
that film and made him pay for it. They did a really
good job on him. Their guys were physical with Malcolm.
When you start putting your body on guys, then
it takes a lot away. It’s kind of uncharacteristic of him
to not come away with something, even under that
circumstance. I’ll take him every day. I’ll take him on
days when he has trouble getting the ball in the basket.
He does a lot of different things. We ask him to do a lot
of different things for this team. Tonight, he just didn’t
get one of those things done.”
