I thought each school gets to handle how positive drug tests are dealt with? I wouldn't think the NCAA would test until the tournament like how they busted McGary at Michigan a couple years ago.

Schools can set their own policy for school administered test, but the NCAA policy is 1 year for any banned substance (recreational or PED).

They (NCAA) test at every championship event, but they also test every D1 athletic department at least once a year.

Details here and here.

That annual NCAA test is what popped Grier at UF and why he got a year instead of a few games.

I would imagine if Hale's issue was drug related, it was a school test, not an NCAA one. I have nothing to base that on other than like I said, I would imagine the NCAA does most of their testing at conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament.

Retin is explosive going to the basket, a far better outside shooter, and a better defender.

He's better than Releford, who in my opinion never progressed much after his sophomore year.

Retin is definitely the better athlete, but I would say Releford was the much better shooter and would choose him over Retin every day of the week.

Releford wasn't always money from the perimeter until his junior and senior year; however, he had so many unheard of layups and was money from the FT line. Feel so bad his senior year was wasted under AG.

Retin is a better defensive player IMO, but he can have some uncanny turnovers from time to time.

I'd take Releford too.

Difference of opinion

I think Releford was a fantastic player, would've loved to see him play under Avery Johnson. The wins never followed Releford, which is a shame.

I hope you're right that if it is a failed test, it is a school one, but you're wrong on the second part. If you follow the links, you'll see they test at each school at least once a year. If you make the tourney, your program guaranteed to get tested at least twice.

Now, they don't test every athlete. The sample is drawn from across all programs with a heavy number specifically from football. It literally is the luck of the draw.

Huh? Releford progressed the most from sophomore to junior season. His last 2 years were one of the best shooting displays I've seen from a Bama player. He could shoot 3s off the dribble better than anyone I've ever seen at Alabama.

They have one more game, vs Long Beach St, before they play us.

Jesus christ their starting line up is just filled with guys that are just over 6-6 and average double figures.

Meh, Relly shot 39% from 3 his senior year, right now Retin is shooting 36%. Relly did shoot 49% from the field that year and right now Retin is at 43%. It'll be interesting to compare their metrics when this season is over.

Releford's best year statistically was his senior year, but to me his high water mark as a player was his sophomore season (also Anthony Grant's high water mark as the coach at UA) when we lost to Creighton in the first round of the NCAAs.

To me the value of a PG is found in the W/L column, and Releford was on a team that plateaued. I know that a lot of that can be credited to the team around him, but he didn't do much to elevate his teammates. In my opinion (take that for what it's worth) Obasohan makes everyone around him better. Time will tell.

Let's just hope we're discussing the theoretical and he's really out because he's got a bad case of the clap.

Releford leads Retin in the following categories:

PER
TS%
eFG%
OWS
DWS
WS
WS/40

I'm not knocking Retin by any means, I just think you are severely underrating Relly for some reason.

Via Pomeroy: Alabama is ranked #1 out of 351 D-1 teams in the "luck" metric, meaning W/L record higher than it should be given other metrics

Question for the board: Why do y'all think we don't post up Kessens more? It always seems like he's out on the wing, but to me he has the best post moves and the best touch/hands. I'd have him getting the passes we often try to dump in to Taylor.
