Why? This is far, far from a requirement in basketball nowadays. Plenty of teams function just fine without some big time back to the basket scorer. Hell the Warriors' best lineup features Draymond Green at C and the only time he spends in the paint on offense is rolling to the basket or off of drives. Really the only guy they post up on that team is Klay Thompson.

I like the move assuming we hire a respectable guy. You bring in an AAU guy to land people from his team. When you miss out on those guys, the hire was pointless.

Yea, I was thinking that Ferguson might have cost Pops his job. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but it didn't help.

I think it was a combination of Ferguson, Bolden, and Herard.

Coach Pop apparently came in under the promise he'd land Bolden and/or Ferguson and got neither. I understand that as a starting point, but we need to bring in a guy who has relationships and can recruit Georgia/Florida/etc and can go national, not one trick AAU guy.

Hopefully we fill it in with one of those. Simon is a great X's and O's guy, but recruiting isn't his strong area.

Sounds good as long as we can find 4 competent consistent shooters from 15 ft out. Right now we have......1? Maybe?

I thought Simon was regarded as a really good recruiter?

I think the Pospichal hire was a panic hire for Avery. He had gotten turned down by a lot of guys, so he went with a friend who we thought would land talent he had connections to. That's probably why he was only given a 1 year contract and not 2 or 3.

If he would've pulled that off, I would've been fine with him being a warm body on the bench. Landing those 2 guys would've launched our reputation and made Alabama a more popular recruiting destination. Would've helped land far more than just those 2 guys in the long run.

I like the idea of Pelphrey unless we get interest from a home run type hire.

See, so did I when we hired him, but I read 2-3 places from people who know the program that Simon, while not a terrible recruiter by any stretch, is much better at practice management/X's and O's/teaching than recruiting.

Yea - and it almost helped get us a Top 12 player on short notice. Now time to go get a guy who is experienced and can take it to another level.

Agree, almost worked too. With Ferguson at least.

Well it helped us get Ferguson committed (for awhile),then national media talked about Avery Johnson getting Bama back on the national radar, and then Ferguson helped us get Key. So it worked out

Yea, I agree, it wasn't a bad move. Time to move forward and get someone for the long term now.

Ehh it helps obviously, but you also need some players that can get to basket really. Calipari has made a living at it. Break down your defender and just throw it up to big. Having shooters definitely makes that easier because it spaces the floor.

Agree. Slashing option offenses are great if you have good penetration, smart guys and some competent shooters. Villanova was another great example. Slash, make decision, kick or shoot, hopefully end up with an open jumper or lull them into over extending and open up post guys.

A guy like Dazon fits perfectly in a system like that.

Villinova had a great senior pg. We may not never have that lol. They will either jump to the league or transfer. Remember us playing that kid when he was bald headed and a freshman.

I guess we will see if someone from Tuscaloosa can confirm this at some point today. That account has close to 20K followers.
