Well I've saw plenty of highlights of Sexton and watched Petty plenty being in Huntsville. I'd like to see the other guys mainly Reese and Herb. Not much film of them out.

All the hate I've given Norris, and he pulls off 5 straight games with double digits

That's mainly been the offense working a bit better and Norris getting the open looks on the perimeter where he excels --
at least since he's gotten over that shooting slump.

He certainly needs to work on finishing around the rim though.

A lot of frustration with Norris comes from simply not having enough players that can break down defenders one on one.

Norris, like Collins or any of our bigs, are absolutely not players you want "creating" with the shot clock winding down but it's still too often that you see one of them get passed the ball with 6 seconds on the clock.

The only two players we have that really can do this are Key and Ingram (and AJ Jr) and all are pretty raw and mistake prone.

Coach Johnson has seemingly decided to sink or swim with Key as the offensive focus since Key's gotten some games under his belt and that should mean a bit more good looks for Norris without asking him to drive and create.

Well, wouldn't you say Key has the most upside of anyone on the roster as a scorer?

Hall is getting better down low. If he could establish a small jump shot 5-8 feet out he would be dangerous

Women's basketball Iron Bowl is on and I think Auburn has as many fans in Coleman as we do.

Women's team still knows how to choke.

First game I've watched but Auburn clearly knows how to close.

They were telling a story earlier about us having a player go to the concession stand when Curry first got here. Said she was on the bench eating while injured. Had no idea we had sunk that low.

There's a huge talent gap between Alabama and Auburn's girls...apparently the same holds true with the coaching.

Here's teamrankings.com's outlook on our NCAA tourney chances. I thought y'all might like to look at this. Gives us a 30% chance of making it (had a 10% chance last week). Seems like 20 wins would give us a 50/50 shot but 21 is the number we need. Seems accurate enough. LINK

Per the RPI Wizard

If we basically win the games we are supposed to and lose the game we are supposed to

@ Arkansas - L
vs Auburn - W
@ South Carolina - L
vs Kentucky - L
@ Missouri - W
vs LSU - W
vs Georgia - W
@ Texas A&M - W
vs Ole Miss - W
@ Tennessee - L

19-11 (12-6), RPI 61

That would probably put us in a position of needed to at least reach the SECCG in the Tournament to get into the NCAAs.

If we manage to do the same thing but win @ Tennessee : 20-10 (13-5), RPI 50.

If we manage to do the same thing but win @ Arkansas : 20-10 (13-5), RPI 51

If we manage to do the same thing but win vs Kentucky : 20-10 (13-5), RPI 46

Basically, we are winning all the favored and toss up games + one upset away from being squarely on the bubble entering the SEC Tournament. Now, that isn't easy, but the fact that it is possible is pretty incredible.

KenPom Stats as of 12-19-17 (5-5) vs 1-30-17 (13-7)

Overall : #82 vs #60
Offensive Efficiency : #179 vs #167
Defensive Efficiency : #39 vs #17
Adjusted Tempo : #295 vs #269
Offensive Rebound % : #179 vs #49

We've gotten better (and are playing faster). Great job by Avery and the kids.

Offensive rebounding and defensive efficiency are the two most I'm happy about. Hope this is something that will be consistent throughout Avery's tenure here.

Offense still needs to keep improving.

A big reason the tourney is still a possibility has to go to the overall improvement of the SEC as a whole. If half the league were teams with RPIs in the 100+ range, we'd already be done.

The coaching hires of the last few years are starting to pay dividends for everyone.

Yep. The league is no longer terrible. It's not great, but it's deep with NIT/NCAA type teams.

The only bad teams in the league are LSU and Missouri.

A few thoughts about recent comments:

Bola is only 6'7. Uses strength to be one of the best rebound per minute guys in the country but isn't much of an athlete, so he's not very explosive around the rim. Gets his shot blocked from behind often. So he's learned, probably at Avery's behest, to find pass out of that spot. Helps us win.

Dazon is a slasher/driver. He makes his open 3's now, and I'm glad for that but he's not going to be a guy that pulls up for contested 3's ever. His shot isn't designed for it. He played 7 games last year and only took 1 three. Just not his game and that's ok.

Riley is our best defender. If all he ever does is hit 3's and guard their best player, then he helps us win. Every team needs that guy.

We can beat anybody now, but we can also be beaten by anybody.

What if we finish 19-11 (12-6) then beat a good team like Arkansas Friday and lose to UK Saturday at the tournament

If we beat Arkansas and won/lost all the other expected then were a 5 seed at the tournament and beat Ole Miss, Florida and lost to Kentucky on Saturday

22-11 , RPI 37

If we lost to Arkansas and then did the same

21-12 (11-5) , RPI 50

So, basically we have to win 1 of: @ Arkansas, @ South Carolina, Kentucky, @ Tennessee and then hold serve in the others......then probably get a mild upset in the tournament on Friday.

It's an uphill battle for sure, but it's not impossible. The depth of the SEC compared to past years is a huge help come tournament time. Every win will be at least a top 80 win, most top 60 or 50.
