Nice win - LSU stinks but a road win is always a good win. And we finished the game strong.
Take care of business against Missouri on Wednesday and then take a nice little record into Auburn and see if we can steal one there.

I've never really kept up with anything but RPI. Is KenPom important? How does it work? If someone could just give me a basics summary I'd appreciate it

KenPom basically measures each teams individual performance, not their resumes.
RPI looks at who you beat, where they are ranked, whether it was home or away, etc.
KenPom takes every statistic individually (including tons and tons of advanced metrics), adjusts it for the opponent, and then tries to give an accurate ranking for how good a team is, not what they've done so far.
The easiest summary is : RPI measures past accomplishments and resume, KenPom is trying to tell you what would happen if Team A played Team B in the future. If you want to see a ranking based on how well a team has done to that point in a season, you look at RPI. If you wonder how purely good a team is compared to other teams in their conference or nationally (based on things like Offensive Rebound %, Offensive Efficiency, Defensive Efficiency, Assist Ratio, etc, you use KenPom.
I hope that makes at least a bit of sense.

Basically, Alabama is playing pretty good ball. Not great, but pretty solid. We've lost a lot of close games, something that RPI doesn't really care about, but KenPom doesn't even consider (because KenPom doesn't measure wins and losses, it measures how well you play).
Alabama could play 20 Top 25 teams, go 0-20 and lose all close games and they could still be 50th or 60th in KenPom (because the thought would be close losses to good teams would imply they are playing well, if they played a bad team they'd win). They'd be 250th in RPI.

Oh ok that makes sense. Thanks for explaining it. Well I'm glad to see we're that high in the rankings.

Defensive efficiency is an important stat and being good at it can carry you a long way in basketball. Of course, as we all know all too well, you have to have some semblance of offense to go with it, right football team?

If we can beat Mizzou, we'll be 11-6 (4-1) going into Auburn next Saturday. Would love to knock off Auburn at home, and leave 12-6 (5-1). That record wouldn't look too bad
Posted on 1/14/17 at 9:48 pm to Bamafan15
The way we were playing during our non-conference schedule, I would have never believed that 12-6 was even possible. Sure would be nice.

That Saint Louis game almost made this season go down the drain. So glad our guys fought back and were able to escape with a win. That would've been a killer loss
Posted on 1/14/17 at 11:08 pm to Bamafan15
I turned that game off with 5 minutes left because I thought we were done

We have to have the easiest SEC schedule this season. Of the 5 teams we play twice, State, Auburn, LSU, Mizzou, and Georgia, only one of them is worth a crap and that is Georgia.
So, we have no excuses to have a good record, but it still may not be worthy of any NCAA tourney consideration.

State is in the top half of SEC teams. They might be better than UGA

Hell we can make anyone look like world beaters at times. Lol

We're 10-6 (3-1) with this schedule remaining. Here's my thoughts:
Missouri- should be a win
@ Auburn- could go either way. Hard to win away, especially at Auburn. They've played terrible lately and lost Purifoy so I'll say we edge them out.
@ Georgia- don't have a good feeling about this one. We seem to struggle against them a lot. Leaning towards a loss.
Mississippi State- Already beat them away. They've gotten better but we should beat them again.
@ Arkansas- most likely a loss even though it's possible to win this one. Miss St just won at Arky.
Auburn - should beat them at home.
@ South Carolina- loss
Kentucky -loss
@ Missouri- win
LSU- win
Georgia- could go either way but I say we get revenge at home, but barely
@ Texas A&M- could go either way, A&M has struggled lately, feel like we will barely win.
Ole Miss- senior night against an average team=win
@ Tennessee- they're possibly better than us. Wouldn't surprise me if we lost. Not gonna make a pick on this one bc it's the last game and it's just too hard to predict.

I think 17-18 wins and 10-8 or 11-7 in conference is a reasonable expectation with probably a tad bit or optimism sprinkled in.
That'd be a NIT birth I'd guess.

I'd be fine with that. Just don't wanna not make a postseason tourney

we can have 12 schollys, right? ... out of these 14, i assume schaffer and collins are practice squad players, and giddens is not playing but counts, so we're at full strength on schollys ... am i correct?
edit: olaniyan is also ps? ...

You can have 13 scholarship players, Collins definitely isn't a practice squad guy, and yes Giddens is still on scholarship even though he has to sit out as a redshirt.

ah, don't know why i put collins in there ... i know he's not ps ... was looking at the roster and they added a landon fuller from the ps in november ...
don't know why i've been thinking 12 ...
