Alabama Softball Moves to 20-0 with Sunday Run-Rule Over Miami Ohio
The Crimson Tide offense tallies a season-high 13 hits in the 10-2 win over the Redhawks
Alabama softball improved its record to 20-0 Sunday with a 10-2 run-rule win over Miami (OH) in 5.0 innings to close out its weekend at the T-Mobile Crimson Classic.
For the third time this weekend, Alabama (20-0) fell behind early after a Miami (4-10) solo home run in the first, but the Crimson Tide quickly rallied with three in the bottom half to lead 3-1. The momentum carried over into the second inning as the Crimson Tide added five more runs off three hits and then tacked on another pair in the bottom of the third to make it 10-1. The Redhawks got a run back in the top of the fourth but could not cut the deficit beyond eight runs, ultimately taking the run-rule loss in five innings.
Seven different players earned a hit in the win, including multi-hit performances from Dallis Goodnight, Ashley Prange, Ally Shipman, Jenna Johnson, Jenna Lord and Kat Grill. Johnson drove in a career-best four RBIs and Shipman extended her current hitting streak to five games, while the multi-hit game is the first of Lord's career. Montana Fouts (10-0) made her fourth appearance of the weekend and earned her fourth win, pitching 3.0 inning with Jaala Torrence backing her up with 2.0 in relief.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Again, I just want to say thank you to our fans. They've been awesome all weekend with sellouts on Friday and Saturday, and another almost sellout today. Karli Spaid, who hit the home run for them, is a hell of a player, so kudos to her. But after that home run, we came back by scoring three in the bottom of the first to really take control and then we added five more and another two after that. I was really, really pleased with the continuation of our offense today. We talk a lot about handing the baton down to the next person like a relay and I thought we did a great job of that today."
