Alabama Softball Posts Saturday Shutouts over No. 8 Virginia Tech, Middle Tennessee
A sixth-inning home run from Ally Shipman gave the Crimson Tide its second win of the weekend over the eighth-ranked Hokies
Alabama softball posted a pair of shutouts Saturday at Rhoads Stadium, beating eighth-ranked Virginia Tech, 2-0, before blanking Middle Tennessee, 8-0, in five innings.
Alabama (8-0) and Virginia Tech (7-2) started the day with another pitcher's duel before a two-run home run from Ally Shipman broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth and Lexi Kilfoyl (2-0) closed it out with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, capping the complete-game victory for the junior right-hander.
In the second game of the day against Middle Tennessee (2-7), the two teams were scoreless until the Crimson Tide plated a run in the fourth and then exploded the next inning, scoring seven more to end the game in run-rule fashion, 8-0. Shipman added two more RBIs in the win with a double in the fifth along with RBIs from Jenna Lord and Jordan Stephens in their first career starts at Alabama. Alex Salter (2-0) earned the win while Montana Fouts earned the save, her first of the season and ninth of her career.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Number one, Kilfoyl's game face on the mound was just unbelievable. The intangible she told the team about herself this year was to have a calm, cool presence when stuff happens. She has absolutely lived that every game she's gone out there. Kudos to her for keeping her cool with the bases loaded no outs. We knew it was going to be a pitcher's duel with whoever they pitched, and the freshman was good as advertised. The pitcher yesterday was good as advertised too. Luckily, we threw a shutout and scored and won both of those. In the second game we didn't turn it on until the fifth and I was disappointed in that. We've got to do a better job tomorrow against them because they respected the hell out of us, and we need to do the same tomorrow."

Jordan Stephens Home Run Caps 9-1 Win for Alabama Softball over Middle Tennessee
The freshman’s first career home run secured the run-rule victory for the Crimson Tide
Freshman Jordan Stephens capped a 9-1 Alabama softball victory over Middle Tennessee Sunday afternoon with a three-run home run to end the game in run-rule fashion.
Alabama (9-0) scored three runs in both the first and second innings against Middle Tennessee (2-9) to jump ahead to a six-run lead but failed to put away in the Blue Raiders in the subsequent three frames, allowing the visitors to scrape a run across in the top of the sixth and break up Montana Fouts' (3-0) no-hit bid, though the senior hurler finished with 13 strikeouts. With two on and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Stephens came to the plate and turned on the second pitch, sending it over the left field fence to end the game.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"First, I have to give a shout out again to the crowd. It's unbelievable. I wish I could thank everybody individually for coming out this weekend. Yesterday was a sellout and we were really close again today. It was the best weather day of the spring so far, and we just couldn't have asked for anything more from the fans. Montana [Fouts] battled through a little bit but ended up with 13 Ks and you have to give credit to Middle Tennessee's players for battling. When you're up 6-0, you want to continue that and we had a little lull in there. [Jordan] Stephens' big hit in the bottom of the sixth was incredible. When a big moment like that happens to a freshman, especially Jordan who has worked her butt off from day one, it is just unbelievable. It was a great feeling all the way around and I guarantee you there was a lot of Mudita in that dugout. I'm just so happy for Jordan and for our team."

Before Stephens stepped to the plate, head coach Patrick Murphy called a timeout and was seen in length huddle with Stephens and the two baserunners. He told her to sit on the changeup. And when she got her opportunity at the pitch, she didn't miss it.
"I just saw it come in, and I fired," Stephens said. "I knew what I could do, and the best outcome possible came out of it.
"I've dreamed for so long about being here and playing on the big stage and just having that opportunity to be up to bat in that situation was already amazing. I just really wanted to take advantage of that opportunity in any way that I could.”

This isn’t a game tying HR. This isn’t breaking any records. This is a freshman who has tirelessly worked so hard in the weight room, on her swing, on her nutrition. This is 19 teammates who’ve been privy to witness the process realized. Not by accident. They get it. #MUDITA

Montana Fouts Named SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Alabama's Montana Fouts was named the SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday by the Southeastern Conference.
Fouts went 2-0 over three appearances at last week's Easton Bama Bash, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out 24 batters over 13.1 innings pitched. She started the weekend with a complete-game shutout over then-No. 9 Virginia Tech, holding the Hokies to three hits while striking out 11. She then notched a save in the weekend's first matchup against Middle Tennessee before earning a complete-game win in the rematch with the Blue Raiders, striking out 13 over 6.0 innings.
The weekly award is the first this season for Fouts and the 10th of her career, previously winning Freshman of the Week four times in 2019 and Pitcher of the Week five times over her three years in Tuscaloosa. Crimson Tide pitchers have now won a combined 46 SEC Pitcher of the Week awards.

She won the award that matters...homecoming queen is irrelevant and the process is comical at best.
