He's been the most dominant/disruptive d-lineman of the Saban era.
I'm trying to argue this right now, but having a lot of difficulty doing so. A'shawn? Allen? Dareus?

quote:I had a flight yesterday so I rewatched the game. Williams was dominant on almost every single play. If someone was better than him, than that is great, but I sure as hell don't remember it. I think because he is a normal looking guy and wasn't a huge recruit many people overlook him. But he is insane.

ETA: I obviously don't know how he grades out, but as far as singlle handedly disrupting plays, he has to be up there. I'm sure Allen graded out pretty well too

I think Allen and Dareus are the only two that are in the argument. While both were great and probably more physically gifted, neither were more dominant play after play like Williams has been, IMO.

I think I agree. Which is crazy given how many beasts we've had on the line.

if we had better players around him I think Dareus could have been close. He was an edge rusher on 3rd down. playing out of position because we didn't have great edge guys then. (although that little white NG we had then was a pretty great pass rusher for us. cant remember his name off hand. #58 I think.) in today's game with almost constant nickel packages I think he would have been more disruptive as an inside rusher. we just didn't have that luxury.

I've stood in front of my TV giving this young man and the rest of the defense alot of slow, appreciative golf claps.

Good take on Q Williams after the LSU game.... LINK
quote:
Weeks ago, in the Hot Press WalterFootball.com was the first outlet to report that NFL teams were projecting Quinnen Williams as a high first-round pick. If there was any doubt about that, it was erased in Baton Rogue, as he put his special talent on display with a tremendous game against LSU. Williams was phenomenal, as he was using his shocking speed, natural strength and athleticism to whip the interior offensive line of LSU. It was pure domination from start to finish.
NFL sources say Williams is grading out higher than Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver, Auburn's Derrick Brown, teammate Raekwon Davis, Mississippi State's Jeff Simmons, and the Clemson duo of Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence. None of those players have a tape from this season as impressive as how Williams dominated LSU on Saturday night. This performance should help him to be one of the first players drafted next April and it could make him a strong contender to go No. 1 overall depending on how the team needs and quarterback prospects shake out.

Nick Gentry. Had a great game 1/9/12.

Yeah I finally remember Gentry’s name at the dinner table. Loved that guy. The last 2* recruit for Bama just about.

I see the Williams vs Oliver debate as a technique vs physical upside thing. They're both high level in both areas but whereas Williams is one of the most technically polished DT prospects to come along in years Oliver is just an absolute freak athlete, the dude moves around like he's 230 pounds without sacrificing any strength. Williams is the better player right now but Oliver's athleticism is tough to pass on, and it's not like he's raw or anything.
Oliver is supposedly only like 275 pounds though which will likely scare some teams off (it happened with Donald and he was 10 pounds heavier).

Its pretty crazy that with all the offensive firepower, Bama has two defenders currently projected as top 10 draft picks in Williams and Thompson
