I think Saban has at least 5 more years but eventually he will have to retire, so that got me thinking about potential replacements and one name kept popping up in my head and I wanted to know what y'all thought. Would Chris Petersen be a good choice? He's always been able to win wherever he's been, but he's never really faced a challenge bc he's coached at Boise and Washington in weak conferences. I'm not saying I would want him, I'm just saying he would probably be interested and he doesn't seem like a bad coach

I want someone high strung, wound up tight.

Guys like Peterson and Swinney come off too laid back to handle the pressures and scrutiny of the Bama job. Especially if they had to follow Nick Saban.

I think they're both fine coaches, but football ain't the same in Washington or South Carolina as it is in Alabama...

I agree. The problem is, there's only a few coaches left who have had success on the championship level similar to Saban. Dabo, Petersen, Meyer are three of them. Who would we even go after? You don't want a new guy. Maybe promote someone from within like Pruitt? I honestly don't know and would HATE to be the AD when that time comes.

Im sure the push will be for Dabo, but I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Pruitt could be that guy.

The only thing I am sure of with Dabo is that the recruiting machine would continue. Dabo is very near Saban territory in that area.

The more that I hear the players talk about Pruitt, the more I like him. I know we used to have a poster around here that bad mouthed Pruitt and his whole family

I hope they avoid the same pitfalls that plagued them replacing Bryant. Gone are the days of being too centric around Bama ties and Bear's guys, and estranging people like Bill Curry because he wasn't "one of us". Yet you hire him because you pissed off "one of us" in Bobby Bowden.

It wasn't easy getting Saban and he had no ties to Bama, yet Mal Moore knew he had to swing for the fences. I'd like for that mindset to continue...

I think the BOT made it almost impossible to coach here before Saban. We were always kicking ourselves in the dick.

It's really amazing how much they got in their own way. There was some plain bad luck along the way, but man.

That's actually a good rumor to start for the LSU coordinator

Who would downvote a post suggesting our defensive coordinator might be a good hire?

Who would you rather have?

One reason I like him is I'd like to see Alabama hire someone completely different than Saban. So different, that nobody can say, "oh that's what Saban would have done. Blah blah blah." Because it'll be known day one that he ain't gonna do shite like Saban.

Hire Dabo. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. But I think he could shield himself from most of the pressure because he does shite his own way.

I think hiring worse version of Saban would be a bad idea.

Whoever follows Saban, is going to be compared to him. It's not fair, but it's going to happen. Dabo might not want the job because of that.

I have a friend who lives in Montgomery who is very close with Dabo's family.

He wants the job, but he wants to be the only choice. He doesn't want to be jerked around and be subject to a coaching search fiasco.

I don't know how to feel about that.

I don't like having rules dictated to me, but I think he will get it if he truly wants it. I think his mom still lives in the Bham area.

Gotta give him credit if he has the balls to follow Saban.
