I absolutely agree. You can't see a commitment to basketball when the team plays in an airplane hanger and there are zero plans to build a new one. After hiring a coach, a new arena should be priority #1. Its time for everyone to quit dancing around that fact.

That was the hope with GM. That he would introduce so much good energy into BAMA basketball, that they would have to build a new arena.

I think the roster is in good shape. If the top recruit sticks, no reason a good coach cant walk in and make the tourney first year.

Yep, his hire would've been an absolute gamechanger. Thus the disappointment everyone is feeling right now.

Can we hire someone that has coached under Pop? Most of them have been great.

We'll see if whatever coach we get is able to keep players from transferring but I agree that Grant didn't leave anything near a dumpster fire.

You could say Grant left NIT type roster talent and a new coach may not break out of that pattern until he brings in a couple of higher level difference makers to go with the decent depth and role players.

However, like about everything under Grant, I'd say the roster now is "slightly above average".

I honestly thought this years team had the talent to be a tournament team. Just had the same flaws all of AG's teams have had.

I think the right coach get win 20 game with what we have coming back.

At this point we have to go for Archie Miller, throw the same sink at him in regards to recruiting and control.

Miller makes under a million now. We could probably get him for $2 million.

Archie isn't a sure thing. You don't throw $4 million at a coach unless you know he's the real deal. The problem we now have is Archie knows he's the second option, he knows that we offered Marshall $4.5 million, and that our choices are slim. Not to mention he knows that another public rejection would be humiliating for our program. So he has a lot more leverage than your average up and coming mid major guy.

Yeah, I edited that out because i put down the wrong numbers. Meant to basically say give him the same control. He still hasn't proven himself fully, but has a very good resume at this point.

Archie has some leverage but not as much as we seem to think. If anything it could be quieted with the whole recruiting budget deal.

Bama is not his first choice either. It's all just business, surely he is smart enough to know that.

Give him 2.5 plus incentives. Five days to decide, deal drops 100k/yr for every day he waits.

Unless there's some key transfers I don't see why we shouldn't at least be as good as this past season.

I thought this year would be better as well. At least by a few games, which would have been enough to make the tourney.

It seems the plight of the Alabama basketball fans is slow death by "near misses" considering Marshall's declined offer on the heels of Grant's tenure being defined by them.

Will have no problem with hiring Archie Miller.

The sad thing is Alabama Basketball needed someone like Marshall. It needs someone to come in and take full control. Someone with the arrogance and swagger to lead the program. I know nothing about Archie but I hope he has the qualities that make him a dynamic leader for sport in desperate need of leadership.

It will take a huge offer from a big time program to get him to leave.

uhh. No school will pay much more than what we offered. And those big programs needs big program results...so the risk is probably less at UA

The reason that I could fathom a decline in production is the overall improvement of our opponents. Miss St. hiring Howland, UT with Barnes, Auburn has another year of Pearl and more of his recruits on the team, etc. Add in the seasoned veteran coaches like Donovan and Calipari and it leads to a tough road, especially if we hire a Prohm type coach. Mid-tier in tSEC could be bottom tier next year if we don't get the right hire.
