I can't help it. All this smoke has gotten to me. I will be let down if we miss on Marshall as opposed to realizing it was a long shot. I really hope we get miller If gregg turns us down.

Yeah, i'm going to struggle with him telling us no, if he does.

I'm a big Archie fan, but even I understand how underwhelming that hire would be compared to Gregg.

I seriously hope it doesn't come to that.

That would be brutal on all fronts.

So does anyone know if Texas is actually firing their coach or not? Last I heard it was pretty much change everything to the way we want it or gtfo...is that just a nice way to try and kick the coach out because of everthing he has done for them?

I told myself I wouldn't get too invested in the coaching search...Yet here I am reading shite about it all day. Now if Marshall doesn't come I'm gonna be so disappointed.

I really thought we would get Marshall but not gonna lie if the Texas coach quits and its between us and Texas....well....probly won't work out for us.

Is it pretty much assumed he is leaving Wichita state? Just a matter of where? Or are they still in the running

He could stay at Wichita, but I think most think he will leave for the right offer.

word.

So didn't Archie Miller just get an extension? Does that change much for Alabama? Or does that just mean we would possibly have to pay more or something?

I remember reading that his brother who coaches at Arizona talked to him and recommended he wait for a top level coaching job to open up like he did as opposed to jumping at a mid major level school...hopefully that's not true.

Interesting article and comment by Wichita State's athletic director

Eta...from article....

Alabama possesses the money, prestige and SEC juice to make all that irrelevant, and 73-year-old athletic director Bill Battle apparently wants to go all-out to return Crimson Tide basketball to power.

I was reading some threads on the shoker forums & a few mentioned that if GM leaves, they hope they go after Prohm.

Frankly, it's reached the point where if I do put something on here, someone is going to come along with "inside information" and, whether that has the slightest relation to reality or not, it gets treated as fact. And, as I said before, I am through debating.

Regarding the Texas job, as of this point, nothing definite has been done. All signs point to Barnes quitting\being fired but it hasn't happened yet. It is expected to go down Sunday sometime. Now obviously Texas is not sitting on their hands waiting for things to happen. You know they are feverishly working back channels to try and line up their next coach. Two things: Alabama has a huge head start in these negotiations unless Texas has been planning this for some time. And secondly, I read something that said while Texas could obviously go higher, they weren't interested in spending over $3 million a year on a basketball coach. Reading between the lines a little, I'd say their primary target is Smart, Miller, or Jacobson; a successful mid-major.

Also read on another board that all is quiet so far on the situation but that money is not the issue. The issue for Marshall is whether or not Alabama will support the day to day operations in basketball the same way they do football. Said facilities are not at issue either at this time. Day to day support would include a private jet for recruiting, etc. Now to play devils advocate for a moment, if I'm Marshall and I know the situation, I want some serious reassurances that that is indeed the case from the entire administration simply because Batlle can make those promises all day long but we all know he won't be here long term to see they are carried out.

I wish I knew more. I'm burning up my usual sources trying to find any tidbit of news but it's as quiet as a church on Monday morning.

Here's a few Shocker posts for ya...

quote:

Why are you so sure it won't be about money? He's already stated he'll listen to this 'crazy' offer and you know this 'crazy' offer entails a very large sum of money. There are speculations/rumor that the offer will be ranging from 4 to 5.5 million guaranteed for 6 years. Talks of throwing in a house by the lake is also being thrown out there. Don't you think when GM states that money is not a determining factor he's exercising some political correctness and coach speak?

Alabama recently threw 25 million in renovations to their arena, built a brand new practice facility, does not want their in-state rival (Auburn w/ Coach Pearl) to own them in basketball, and he can quickly turn around the program to be a power in the SEC since everyone but Kentucky and Florida stinks. He can now entice McDonald All-Americans to come to Alabama by having them sit with the pretty coeds at Bear Bryant Stadium in the fall. Plus they'll give him full oversight of the program too?

You know the old saying, money talks and Bama certainly will be using a whole heckuva lot of that to sway GM. I'm with you, I believe GM is genuine when he says money is not a determining factor, but if the rumors are true, he's never had to deal with that amount of money being throw in his face so who really knows how he will respond. I'm just going to have faith and hope that C. Koch may chip in something

Well, I hope Sexton has Steve Prohm and Brad Underwood on speed dial. Always have a Plan B, well, planned. Underwood is a KS kid that went to KSU, coming back to KS might be enticing. Prohm has done well at Murray and not just with Kennedy's prior players.

@GaryParrishCBS: Top two candidates at Texas are Gregg Marshall and Shaka Smart. Different sources rank those two in different orders. But those are the two.

@CecilHurt: Per the Austin American-Statesman, Texas could announce Rick Barnes' dismissal as soon as tomorrow.
