When Nick Saban went outside looking for a receiver with speed you should have listened to what he was saying. That receiver room wasn't filled with speed and he tried to correct.

With what is returning I'm going to need his unit to be elite starting in game 1 and without 2-3 absolute disasters before I completely get on board.

But he did good work with this group the 2nd half of the season.

No doubt. We definitely aren't signing him to a lifetime deal right now. But he's earned a shitload of my respect as the season went on. And I was pretty harsh in early October. But I see why Saban has stood by him.

For years people have joked that Bama could play their second string and win a title. Last night proved that isn't true. And that's all it proved

It also proved I've become a pussy at dealing with a hangover at work.

Agreed - and he's gotten better each year. Honestly, the only game where it felt like we were just lost defensively was A&M. Florida was a bad matchup to have to throw a new OLB in there with their read option stuff. Arkansas, honestly, Burks just big boyd guys a few times.

Our schemes and play calls seemed to be pretty good once the defense really gelled this year. Hopefully we take another step next year.
