OT:
At what point did we in America begin to just ignore obvious propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party? Why do we turn a blind eye to the human rights threats to their citizens?
Why do we continue to pretend these issues don't exist - because they make our cheap junk that we can't seem to do without (myself included)?
We have apparently disavowed similar regimes throughout modern history, yet are content to trade with this one and tie our economies together in sometimes detrimental ways.
I'm not trying to stir anything up politically, I just generally don't understand how we got so intertwined with a country that seems to have such poor regards for life and liberty.

We did it at first because China was a good place to get cheap trinkets manufactured.
Now it's because we literally cannot make a basic necessity like Penicillin without them.
It will almost be worth the pain if this event prompts us to divorce from that reliance - of course if that happens there may be a very large military confrontation in the western Pacific.

Good luck though having either party do much aside from lip service and tough talk toward really diminishing our reliance on cheap Chinese stuff.
Shelves packed with that dollar store stuff effaces the degree to which middle/working class people have had their real buying power slashed since the 80s.
It's ironic to think that my dad, conservative leaning but union working southern man, would have kicked my arse all the way back to a Kmart in 1979 if I came home with a $9.97 Chinese made drill instead of a $45 American made one from our local hardware store.

Few believe that China’s numbers are accurate.
I'm personally weary of any stats from any country for a variety of legitimate reasons.
For me, a better gauge and reality check would be to look at how the authorities are behaving, rather than what they’re saying. Right now, that’s good news: Life is returning to quasi-normality in most of China, and physical distancing measures have been severely reduced. Hospitals aren’t overrun, and medical staff is being withdrawn from Wuhan, China's NY.
I'm sure no one in China is treating this stuff with enough contempt to not be ready or proactive in case of a second wave. But body language is at least interesting right now.

That's probably coming anyway considering China's belligerence in the region, provoking allies like Japan and Taiwan on an almost daily basis while increasing their military capabilities throughout the Far Eastern theater.

I don’t think it’s far fetched the numbers are going down. They did take some extreme quarantine measures after all. But I do think it is far fetched to believe that they’ve had so many days in the last month with little or no cases or deaths.
Also their numbers were probably off even at their peak. A lot of people died that may have had the virus but just classified as “pneumonia”.
On a side note, China is definitely using this whole thing as opportunity to prop themselves up. Besides just that they’ve “completely eradicated” this virus while the West still suffers, they’ve already received much praise (including from some in the US) for “sending aid” to foreign countries.

Not exactly. China is VERY good at playing the long game. Their desire is to win without having to pull the trigger and at the current rate they'd be there in a couple of decades. Their state industrial espionage gets them access to steal/compromise everything they build for us (see all the routers, phones, etc with built in back doors) and our reliance on them for actual essentials makes us totally dependent.
They'll eventually make a move but only when they have us at a point we couldn't do anything about it if we wanted.
Stop letting them build the important stuff and that plan gets trashed overnight.

China formaulated a plan to be the next great superpower after being ashamed at their world position after WW2. Their plan is almost wholly economical.
Russia formulated a plan to be the next great superpower after being ashamed at their position after the fall of communism in the late 80s. Their plan is varies, but as it pertains to the US, it's divide from within so that the US crumbles upon itself. The internet has made this easier.
Both Russia's and China's respective plans have been wildly successful and look to continue to be so in the future without significant global intervention.

Russia isn’t going to be a superpower. They don’t have a bright future like China likely does.

Anyone that has been to Geneva County shouldn’t be surprised they have no confirmed cases yet. One, it only has around 25,000 residents, and two, most of those residents rarely leave the county.

Russia has more money from oil, minerals, and other stuff in the ground than you can possibly imagine. Couple that with a military culture and a willingness to flaunt international law, and Russia can theoretically accomplish whatever it wants, assuming it plays it's cards right. It's been playing them well for quite some time now.

I’m not saying they can’t increase their standing as a global power but being a superpower is something more. There’s only been like 3 superpowers in history with China looking to be the 4th. Russia’s economy has been up and down over the last 2 decades despite all those natural resources. Their economic future outlook isn’t as bright as a number of nations much less becoming the largest in the world.
They’re also looking at the largest population decline of any highly populated country. Sure they have the tools to regain the “glory days” of the USSR but they haven’t shown as much indicating that. At least compared to a few other countries.

The United States is about to stop funding The World Health Organization over all of this crap.

So Dr. Brix supposedly said that all deaths in which the patient had the virus is counted towards to the total deaths. Regardless of whether they died of something else.
