Larry Brown... he's been at SMU for 2 years. Time for a change.

I was thinking someone more like Michael White but your guess is as good as mine... I mean, who would be the next coach if Battle decides against hiring Pearl? Everyone seems to focus on him not realizing the chances of that are slim.

I don't think Battle would actually go after Pearl, but man I wish he would. The enthusiasm that would finally be around our program from our coach would be incredible. Grant is a great guy but he lacks any sort of promotional capabilities.

If not Pearl, Howland would be the best hire Alabama could make.

That would be a good hire... The only thing that worries me is that is he has never coached in the south and his last couple years at UCLA were a disaster.

I wasn't serious about Brown

He'd never come here anyway (although I have no idea what he's doing at SMU)

I know... Brown is more realistic then Phil Jackson and John Brady

I realize for a school like UCLA, 25-9 may not be a great year, but disastrous? He didn't do as well his last 4 years, but he did make the tournament twice...

And the article written about the program to me sounded like something that would be posted to the Tiger Rant. It was just an angry fan, nothing serious imo.

Larry Brown is doing very well at SMU by the way... 22-6 and 11-4 in their conference.

I know, he's one of the best. Too bad he hasn't stayed anywhere more than 5 or so years.

25-9 and his 23-11 years were very good, but 14-18 and 19-14 are not... My main point though was he has not coached in the south...

That Howland would be a disaster here. He doesn't instill discipline and creates a fractious locker room. He would probably recruit well and would be like Gottfried at best.

He has very good ties in Georgia recruiting.

He had very good 3 year run at UCLA but everything else is not all that impressive. Ask Bill Walton what he thinks about Howland...

Yeah a guy that's been to 3 final fours would be a disaster. He definitely can't coach.

Because Grant has so much success being a disciplinarian. It's ALL about recruiting in basketball. Discipline means close to nothing in today's game

You don't have to ask Walton. He takes shots at him during every telecast. He had a grudge against him from the get go.

Not always true though. Look at Michigan for example... They are not recruiting like Kentucky, Kansas, or Indiana but they develop their guys... Trey Burke was a 3 star...

Burke was actually a top 100 player according to ESPN. It's weird that you use Michigan as your example, considering they recruit extremely well and better than Indiana has been recently, but you do have a point. Their brother school, Michigan State, would be a better example.
