Well Kirby did the same thing as you recall...
And we criticized him for the inability for the defense to do what was asked then too, I distinctly remember conversations about wanting Pruitt because he had his athletes making plays and not overthinking things.

LINK ]Alabama DC Tosh Lupoi lands NFL job (al.com)
quote:
Alabama is losing its defensive coordinator to the NFL.
Tosh Lupoi is expected to be hired by the Cleveland Browns for a defensive position on new coach Freddie Kitchens’ staff, sources told AL.com.
AL.com had previously reported that Lupoi had interviewed with the Browns and that several sources in the coaching community believed it was likely Lupoi would land with the Browns.
Lupoi was promoted to defensive coordinator last offseason after Jeremy Pruitt left for Tennessee. Known as one of the nation’s top recruiters, Lupoi previously spent three seasons as the Crimson Tide’s outside linebackers coach after initially arriving in Tuscaloosa as an “intern” in 2014.
Should Lupoi leave for the Browns, it would continue a massive upheaval of Nick Saban’s coaching staff following a national championship game loss to Clemson on Jan. 7. Since the loss, offensive coordinator Mike Locksley (Maryland), co-offensive coordinator Josh Gattis (Michigan), quarterbacks coach Dan Enos (Miami) and offensive line coach Brent Key (Georgia Tech) have all left for different jobs.
Kitchens, the former Alabama quarterback, has already plucked one college assistant from the state of Alabama. Jody Wright left his job as UAB’s offensive line coach for an offensive assistant job with the Browns. Wright and Lupoi previously worked together at Alabama when Wright was the program’s director of player personnel.

JMO but the loss of Pruitt has been the greatest loss of any assistant coach Bama's has lost since Nick came to town.

Your helmet stickers are in the mail.....3 days delivery of course
And Big Mike at Maryland is hiring 10RC LBer coach Charles Kelly as his DC. Hope Pruitt isn't looking to Bama for another hire.

He tempered the conservative elements of Saban well with his selective aggression.

Hope we can get the Washington DC

If Golding isn't the hire, Lake would be my second choice

We needed to blow up the Duo-DC thing... clearly they did not work well together and Tosh leaving to the NFL is honestly pretty good for us.

I believe Nick used Butch's trash can and put assistant coaches in it

Boz called it!! Good job . Couple disagreed with me a couple weeks ago when I said it but it really does not bother me at all. He was a good recruiter and “rah rah” coach for several years but not ready for coordinator

Wonder how this affects To’oto’o.

I would be willing to sacrifice To'oto'o if it means getting Golding or Lake in as a DC with as much control as Pruitt or Smart had.

Disagree. We missed on Dean and need a another stud at LB.
As for Tosh, it almost feels like we sent him to the “minors” for some rehab work. Let him get a few years under his belt and bring him back later.

We have Kaho, and I am more concerned about winning a natty next year than I am a LBer that will be relevant in 2-3 years.
Edit; Obviously I want to'oto'o and long term he is important, but if this means we get the aggressive defense of Golding or Lake, I think that is a worthwhile trade because there will be more LBer prospects, there wont be more years with Tua and these Wr's and a secondary that will be replacing only 1 starter.

We need a solid LB coach. Golding is apparently not great there and out of his element. Let him coach DBs and coordinate.
Ideas?
