Dan Mullen is a head case with an attitude. Saban wouldn't put up with him for a minute.

You may not like Mullen's personality, I don't either, but he is a great offensive coach, he has two rings as an OC last I checked.
Mullen beat an Saban Alabama defense one year with Tebow.
Never at Mississippi State.
Never at Florida.
Mullen went 1-4 against Kirby Smart at Florida.
Hire Mullen and there will be Trask stats against lesser competition and, if lucky, an SEC runner-up trophy.
This doesn't even touch his coaching style and fit within the program.

Thats not true at all. As the HC he was in control of the whole program, as our OC he only has to be in charge of our offense. Huge difference.
Who cares what he did as a HC we arent hiring him to be a HC.
.
We hired Sark and Kiffin off them failing as head coaches and they were both great offensive coordinators for us.
Mullen obviously doesnt have the personality to be an HC at a major program, but Ill tell you what, the mfer can call plays as good as anyone.

He ran the offense at Florida, right?
He would run the offense at Alabama, right?
We are talking about the offense....?

Pretty sure he did beat us at Florida when he was the OC.

He is a great OC and a shitty head coach. Youre using his head coaching record to say he would be a bad OC. That doesnt make any sense.

Look at what he did as the OC at Florida.
I'm using the most recent evidence of his ability to run an offense, especially against the competition that will be standing in the way to a title in the years to come.
Mullen has called good games since 2008. But against top-tier competition, his record isn't great.

He whipped a ton of arse as Florida's OC under Urban Meyer.
He then took Mississippi State to a #1 ranking which has never been done before or since.
He is a hell of a play caller, but shitty program builder. We don't need him to do the latter.

He would be very interesting, but if he took the job I don't think Simpson has any chance of seeing the field. Granted I want the best to win out after off season development, but it seems like it will not be a contest based on the type of QBs Mullen coaches.
Edit: plus I remember hearing that he was not the biggest Saban fan, want to say that came out right after 2012 SEC media days

We aren't hiring him as head coach. I dont get your argument at all.
When he was HC at Florida he had the number 1 passing offense in the nation three years ago. Offense wasn't their problem.

Sarkisian as a HC is 13-26 against ranked opponents, including a record of 1-7 against top 5 team.
So obviously that should nullify anything we know about his offensive success too...

Lol right.
Thats pretty much Saban’s OC blue print, to hire great offensive minds coming off failed head coaching gigs.

In 2008. By that logic, let's call up Norm Chow.

He did, then lost to an Alabama that year. One of Saban's weakest in his tenure. Still never beat an Alabama defense at State. Went 7-2 against LSU.

At times. But again, against the competition he would be brought in to help beat, he wasn't that great. 1-4 against Georgia as Florida's head coach. 17-point output, twice. 7-point offensive performance for the other. Still need a playcaller that can out scheme the better defenses (of today).

Was data available for Sarkisian playing Georgia 5 times and losing 4 before hiring him (with really bad offense performances in the losses)?
Your logic is, to beat the best, Alabama should hire the guy who has lost to the best, running his offense, consistently.
Yikes.

He beat Georgia 3 years ago 44 to 28.

Again, he would be hired as a playcaller. He was the playcaller at Florida as well.

Offense against top-tier competition was the problem. Georgia was the top-tier East competition during Mullen's tenure. The 2020 game was the bright light. Outside of that, not so much.
With Alabama's talent, Mullen would be able to beat most teams. It's the December and January defenses he has to be able to beat consistently. He's not shown that in 15 years.

He scored 44 against Georgia 3 years ago, no one has scored that much on Georgia since then.

Yes, that was the 1-4 I referenced.
