Hard to believe they are going to pay 53 million unless BKs plan was to get a huge buyout, get fired, take half the buyout, and quit coaching.

Seems if he was going to quit working, he wouldn’t negotiate down (unless they have legit dirt). If he is planning to coach or do TV, then might make sense to take an upfront payout with no offset.

Why in the world would he be willing to negotiate down?

They owe him $53 million. The only discussion he should have with them is whether he’s going to get it by check or direct deposit.

Hearing he had a requirement to seek employment to offset. If he doesn’t want to work, maybe he takes less (or could take less upfront if they waive the offset so he can double dip).

Is this the actual reason? So megathreads are okay again?

That’s wishful thinking coming from LSU fans. Most contracts have offsets and his is nothing special. It just says “seek qualified employment.”

All he’s got to do is latch on as a game day analyst for one of the networks and he’s met it.

Here’s his contract

This is a talking point by Lsu fans to make them feel better about being poor, they feel as though they have bags of cash laying around to fire and hire entire staffs, oh and they have dirt on him…
IF BK negotiated down ,he’s a bigger idiot than I first thought.

The reason I heard for him being in a situation where he might accept less is that he’s about to be going through a messy divorce for banging his real estate agent in 2023. They filed for divorce but pulled it when the news broke. He’s likely not going to be getting another job on the field or TV set. One of the conditions of the buyout is he finds offsetting employment. They may be able to shave the 10m they were due to gain by waiting a month or so (or a good chunk of it).

Going through a messy divorce is even LESS of a reason to negotiate a settlement.

If she's getting half, you want the half that's left to be as big as possible. Also, is contract (I posted above) does not require him to find offsetting employment. It only requires him to make a good faith effort to find it.

It would be up to LSU to prove he wasn't making a good faith effort.

"Mr. Kelly, have you attempted to find employment in some football related capacity"

"Yes sir, my agent has reached out to ESPN, ABC, CBS, and FOX for broadcast jobs and numerous athletic directors for head coach and staff positions"

"And it's your testimony that no offer has been forthcoming?"

"That is correct. It seems failing to produce on the field at a top-tier SEC school while simultaneously losing my marriage for banging the realtor has made me unemployable at the current time."

"I understand. Here's your next installment."

Why did he wait until BK was fired to open up the Coaching Changes board?
