I went to the fan day. There was a substantial amount of I-formations and Tua under center plays practiced. Almost more than there was shotgun. I left with the impression that we were back to smash mouth football with the ability to stretch the field at anytime with Tua. In addition, it would give us the ability to give our young defense a rest. Where has that gone? Are we waiting for deonte brown? Are we just not good enough on the line to do that and it was abandoned because the coaches realized it? I’m just sort of perplexed as to why it has been done away with.

It went the way of the dinosaurs. It's literally the opposite of what good football is now.

First of all, this is a terrible idea for a thread, but I'll indulge:

For starters, what has Nick Saban shown you in his years at Alabama that would lead you to believe that he's the type of coach who'll show his real offense in the one open practice of the year?

For seconds, what has Nick Saban shown you in his years at Alabama that would lead you to believe that he's going to be showing the best parts of his offense in the first 3 weeks of the season against obviously inferior opponents. In these games, we always do our basic stuff and save the wrinkles for October and November.

But putting those giant obviousnesses aside, there are a litany of logical potential explanations for what you asked in your OP:

1) It was fan day, hoss. AKA "day for the fans".

2) Couldn't we have been practicing a thing we weren't good at in order to try and improve at that thing? I'm sure we've practiced several formations that we've yet to show on gameday.

3) Saban always starts basic and builds on it. I-form is as basic as you can get, but is needed to build stuff on top of it. No one cooks a souffle on the first few days of cooking class.

4) Could Bama have been practicing and seeing what we were good at, and it was determined later that we weren't so good at I-form. What about our current roster screams, "Use the damn fullback!"?

5) Our OC and Oline coach are completely new to the team. Could they have been feeling the team out, and feeling out certain position groups?

And so, considering the above, it's obvious that this was and is a terrible thread, no offense to you personally. But it was fan day, hoss.

Also, what could Deonte Brown have to do with Bama waiting to implement it's "real" game plan? And on top of that, this "real" gameplan is the shockingly revolutionary I-form? The DCs in this league can defend I-form in their sleep.

Hell Nuss scrapped it both in 2012 and 2013 unless it was goal line .The last time Alabama trotted out the I-formation as a staple in the offense was Kiffins first year in 2014. Really is incredible how good that unit was given that Blake Sims was the QB.

The I-formation has never been a staple since Saban has been here. Not sure why the OP thought that would change based on one practice.

Alabama was in the I-formation vs Duke near the goal line. The announcer wanted to call #10 at fullback Mac Jones. Which gave you some insight on how well our play by play guy was educated coming in. But Tua was under center a couple of times near the goal line and Kaho, #10, came in at Fullback and we ran the I-formation.

This.

While we have ran out of the I-formation before, we have never used it as a staple of the offense under Saban like Les Miles did at LSU. Back in the days when our QBs would line up under center more than they would the shotgun, we'd be in a single back formation more often than not.
