Seems silly though,

they would have to redo the rules for all transfers. This way it rewards the graduate

@SprowESPN: Depth chart at Bama isn't empty (not at all), but Coker has 1st-rd ability if he puts it together. Not your typical QB transfer.

If both schools agree and the student-athlete agrees, why should they sit a year? Graduation or not.

just cuz it would cause all kind of chaos, but I would not have a problem with it in situations like NCAA issues or if the HC leaves. But you would be talking about a lot of transfers and if a HC refuses to sign off on this then they would be hated by rivals.

If he graduates in May, there is no "release" to be granted; he doesn't need one; and he has no restrictions as to where he can transfer. Graduation with remaining eligibility removes the current coach's authority on the matter. You would think that between a sports reporter and a highschool football coach they would know this.

What is the exact rule on this? Is it different in the SEC? I don't doubt you but I was wondering about Russell Wilson's transfer a few years back. He graduated in May 2010 from NC State but transferred in the summer of 2011 to Wisconsin...from what I read, NC State had to release him from his scholarship and restricted him from attending another ACC school, as well as any school on their 2011 schedule...

The SEC does not allow transfers with one year left, which differs from the NCAA(they do)

Wilson was before the SEC changed to the new rule, that was the last year it was allowed.

as far as the graduation and being able to go wherever you want, release or not, I dont think thats correct

Thanks, that's the primary thing I'm wanting to know...from most of the articles I've read on previous graduate transfers, they've all mentioned releases and there have been restrictions on where they could go...

I almost positive its handled like any other transfer, except the graduation allows them to start right away, rather than sit a year.
