Yes? Why would you not want to score a touchdown in a 6 point game?
Because having the ball with the lead and the defense having no way to stop the game before the clock hits 0:00 is the best place to be? While the odds aren't good, the other team with the ball, down 12 and 50 seconds left still has the ball in their hands and the ability to score 2x. Their only chance in the other situation is you fumbling a snap. And of course the chance that you don't complete the pass, which stops the clock (which is what happened).
Regardless, he just got too excited, staff corrected it. Not a big deal as long as it's a learning experience.

That’s called an outlier. Alabama has a defense and was shutting them down all second half. I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to score if the opportunity is there

It’s been stated they didn’t know if it would be reviewed. So why wouldn’t you take the opportunity to score?

Because you could throw an incomplete pass and stop the clock. Which we did. I mean the coaches clearly let him know it was the wrong decision, even after he explained his reasoning.

I think if he completed it there would be no conversation on it, but we’ll to disagree
Eta I just want to clarify what I mean. If we’re running a play you go full out. If there is a touchdown you take it. Since someone mentioned Miami, what if we would’ve run it and fumbled?

You definitely could be right. I think it was just kind of a weird, unlucky situation where we were already going fast in a situation where normally you aren't going fast at all, and then a guy is magically wide open and your brain is already going 100 mph trying to get the snap off quick.
The most understandable thing of the entire sequence was spiking the throw

Yea - I got ya. I think the trying to go fast to avoid the review is what kind of "messed" everything up, but that was the right move because the difference in that being spotted short and us getting 4 more downs was gigantic.
If the option was "throw an incompletion on 1st down" vs "it gets reviewed and we're short and punt", take #1 all day. So, in the end, just kind of a weird situation.

Yeah you’re right there. That’s the most logical thing. I was just thinking of if they ran a play. Hopefully if this situation arises again they are prepared for it

It was a bad play call all the way around. You can run a quick snap under center and take a knee. We're in shotgun. How many different things could have happened compared to just taking a knee? My point with Miami is that all they had to do was snap it and take a knee. They actually ran a designed running play which led to the fumble.
When there is no reason to run a true play you don't.
In the end Bama won which is all I care about. Hopefully it's a lesson learned.

Milroe was asked about it and said it was his mistake and that he should have handed the ball off.
Noooo...you should have quickly snapped it and took a knee in that situation. No need to have any exchange beyond the snap. Hopefully he's been told that.
It's kinda like my biggest pet peeve...a punt return team player standing around a rolling punt that isn't going to be returned. Whyyyyyy would you do that??? Should be lesson one from the special teams coach, yet you see it all the time.

The game was won... That's the goal. not winning by x amount. Nothing ATM could do to stop the clock. Their only hope would have been a turn over...and though it was several yrs ago now, it's still too soon to talk about Ed Scissum

I believe it was a combination of rushing to get the ball snapped before a possible review of previous play and him looking out there and seeing Benson all alone with a chance to steal a cheap 6! In all the rush, he threw a “worm burner” out there.

I saw the BOL guys explain it on YouTube perfectly. Basically Milroe has been coached that if you see a receiver uncovered, no matter what the play call is, throw it to the uncovered receiver. Mid throw, Milroe realized that all he needs to do is kneel so he has a brain fart and pulled up and put it in the dirt
