Madden died today at the age of 85. Iconic color commentator and TV pitchman, highly successful head coach of Oakland Raiders.
Ken Stabler’s good pal. RIP.

His voice and color commenting was such a part of my childhood growing up in Dothan …. Especially around Thanksgiving.

Rest In Peace, JM. Long live football.

Madden was Definitely a legend in his profession and very unique. Madden and Summerall were arguably the best NFL announcer duo ever although Enberg and Olsen were my favorites.

Name another announcer that has a video game named after him ...Madden was a legend. R.I.P.

Honestly nearly teared up when I saw this... Madden felt like an old friend to me. I played nearly every Madden game in the 90's and early 00's.

It's weird because I hadn't thought about him in a while, and then Sunday I watched a thing about him and Pat calling a Div III game during the NFL lockout in the 80's. Everyone said both guys gave it their all, just like they were calling a pro game, going down early to watch practice, just the whole 9 yards.

YouTube

There will never be another like him.

You're right, he doesn't get much credit for his coaching. Great point.

He’ll always be Coach Madden to me. Loved watching him on the sidelines with his collection of misfit Raiders. I had just watched the Madden special the day before his death. RIP
