How bad would Avery’s tenure had been without Sexton?

Sexton literally singlehandedly made Avery’s tenure look mediocre. Would have been garbage without him.

Don’t know. From the best I can remember, the team played better last year without Collin on the floor. Probably would have been the same.

You can’t be serious.

Yep, serious. Go back and watch...same dealings he’s having with Cleveland. Great player and athlete. Team player? Not quite yet. Our team got in the habit of standing around watching him play last year.

It’s not like we would have lost 5+ more games last year without Collin....record would have been about the same.

That’s the teams and coaches fault not his.

Also he’s averaging like 22 points a game his last 10 games and his teammates have nothing but praise for him.

He almost won a game 3 v 5 and scored 40 points come on dude.

Avery didn’t know to coach a player as good as him.

I'll concede the last point to you. It doesn't address your original question though. You asked "How bad would Avery's tenure had (have) been without Sexton?"

I could actually argue that the signing of Collin Sexton sped up the firing of Avery Johnson and made his tenure look worse. The lack of substantial success with the best player we've had in more than a decade exposed Avery's lack of ability to coach. Our record would not have been much worse had Avery not signed Collin and expectations would have been a lot less...

I agree with that, but with Collin we went to the round of 32. Without Collin we did nothing.

That's a good point. If I'm not mistaken, we made it on the bubble last year by a game. I don't think the team would have been substantially worse, but we probably would have barely missed the tourney, and I'll grant you, making the tournament is a big deal.

I'm no fan of Avery, but he was Dirk's coach in his MVP season, so this really isn't true. Avery just didn't know how to coach college players.

We were mediocre all the years Sexton was not here, so, probably would have been mediocre.
