I've been pretty vocal about our oline play being subpar, especially the right side and pass pro. But last night some of the pass pro breakdowns were actually due to our RBs failing to pick up blitzers. Even more frustrating, it was obvious pre-snap who was blitzing. We gotta fix that.

Last night wasn't so much on the OL. They brought more than we could block. Jacobs gave up one sack.
As much as I am on Team Jalen, some of that can be laid at his feet on the pre-snap reads.

That should help vs Auburn's 3rd down pass rush. I could see him escaping and getting a big pickup.

Of course he can, he's just not consistently good at doing it. Most qbs are better in the pocket than on the run. My point is that since he's so mobile, it would be awesome if he were better on the roll outs than he is. He still has a tough time finding the secondary receivers, even in the pocket. Too often, when he's rolling out, away from pressure, he basically throws it away.
When he rolls to escape pressure, the receivers have to help him out too, by improvising to give him a target. Lately, in those situations, he's doing a better job of keeping his eyes downfield. Sometimes there's just nowhere to throw or run. I much prefer he throw it away than risk a pick.

I agree. frick winning a championship. The only thing that matters is that Jalen Hurts is the starting quarterback
THE ONLY WAY we win a championship this year is with Jalen driving the bus, he carried us to the win last night against a team that physically beat us. We lose without Jalen.

Love Jalen but the play calling is another story

Yeah. Honestly, I'm not totally sold yet on Daboll.
edit: Something we haven't talked about, but I think in January teams can add another assistant. We have Chris Weinke and the ex Ole Miss/Miami O.C. on staff. I am not naive enough to think they haven't already been working with the qbs, but when one of them (assuming one of them will get a position as qb coach) can do that full time, then all the qbs should get better.

I saw Jalen reading the blitzes and pointing them out to the RBs presnap. Despite that, Jacobs blew at least one and Harris also blew a couple that I noticed. Gotta clean that up.

There never were any Jalen Haters to speak of.
Regardless, this "argument" will be setttled in Auburn. If Bama beats Auburn, we are likely headed to number 17 and there will likely not to be a 2018 quarterback competition in any true sense of the word. Tua will transfer. Of that there is no doubt. He will probably win a heisman at USC or, God forbid, Auburn. Jalen will stay for four years and hopefully we will have great success.
On the other had, a loss means a true post season QB competition and the best case scenario for Jalen will be a two QB system, with him being featured as the run heavy changeup. Tua will win a heisman, here at Bama, and will be a first round pick after his junior year. We will win the title in 2018 and 2019.
In other words, this is a story for which the last chapter has yet to be written. So put away your pitch forks and all your righteous indignation. The winds of sentiment will swing wildly with the scoreboard and this day's hero is oft tomorrow's goat.

ehheh. You wearing kevlar this morning?
Even if Tua doesn't get his shot, I don't think he'd transfer to another SEC team because he'd not get a release from UA, whereas out of conference he likely would. Barnett was granted eligibility as of the 1st game this year, despite the fact he transferred after the 4th game last year, but it was out of conference.
Now his kid brother going to Auburn is a real possibility if they were to stay in Alabama. If Tua transfers, I hope they go out west because I don't want to have to play against either of them.

Nope. Not trying to start anything. Just pointing to the obvious. If Jalen wins it all he will be the hero and if he's a junior with no titles, then his job is up for grabs.
Such is the cruel reality of life on this earth. It's a "what have you done for me lately" world. Always was. Always will be.

Daboll has made some great calls at times and some head-scratching bad ones at times. The three calls before the missed FG were bad, the two big pass plays on the game winning TD drive were great route designs for those situations.
Hopefully, he's learning from his mistakes in film review. This is his first season at Bama and as as a college OC, so I'm fairly optimitic he's going to improve. I really like the flexibility and adaptability the Erhardt-Perkins system provides.
I'm not totally sold quite yet either, but overall I do like him better than the others we've had under Saban.

Anyone see his post game interview? He was asked about the game winning pass and it was something "I saw cover 0, so I gave him a slant".
How much audible power does Hurts have at this point? Earlier in the season it was said Hurts checked into a run on one of Harris's bug plays.
That's a huge step up from when Hurts was running Kiffin's O. Saban wasn't kidding when he said they didn't help Jalens progression as a QB last year and wanted to improve on that this year.
Doball's job is not only playing calling. Anyone notice how quickly and cleanly the O looked in the 2 min drill? No need to spike the ball when you're lined up and ready. Kiffin's O looked clueless at times last year when pushing hurry. That's also a reflection on Hurts growth imo.
And let's hold off on the backup QB will the Heisman talk. That's the barners shtick.

It looks to me like Jalen has quite a bit of leash to make pre-snap play and route calls. More than I think most fans realize. Jalen made some really good, game-changing calls vs LSU and last night.

Jalen played great last night. The majority of folks don't hate Jalen just want to see him improve and he has done that this year. He has better pocket awareness and has read defenses much better than in the past. Kudos to him.
