This is the correct take. He's the best cover guy so he's going to have to play the boundary corner, but that means he also has run responsibilities when the formation dictates it. UGA put us in a bad spot a few times because of formation, but there isnt a scheme that any DC could call quickly enough to flip him to the field when that happens.

And look I want our corners to be fast, athletic and cover but from time to time you have to get in there and hit a guy bigger than you. Low man wins.

But I will say typically one of these 3 things happen:

1. Wolf or DE doesn’t set the edge, collapses inside. Phenomenal example of this was our 4th down stop against UGA. Had LT not blown his man up and got a finger tip on 32 he walks into the end zone untouched.

2. The ILB’s Lawson and Jefferson get swept out of the play or run themselves out of it.

3. Our boundary corners take a horrific angle which makes them look slow or un athletic.

I think Sabb at the very least keeps him out of the end zone if not stops him short of the line even if LT doesn't trip him up. Jones was still 3 yards in the backfield when he got tripped up.

Yeah Saab probably does but I think they get the first. Saab would have to make an amazing tackle against a guy slightly bigger than him by himself. I didn’t remember it but the video shows Lawson and LT colliding basically. I think he’s right, if Lawson doesn’t hit LT he has him.

Thank God Kirby's brain short circuits when they play us. There was zero logical reason for them to go hurry up and run it with Cash freaking Jones. If they bring in either of the power backs and just run it off tackle we had no chance of stopping it.

Yeah that was my thought? Why do that. Bring in a stud and stuff it like they had been all night. Or kick the FG and tie the game? Lots of weird decisions. Chess match.

Imma be honest, it looks like 3 players hit the same gap and only luck had LT come through and make the tackle. If he had set the edge he'd have still made the tackle and it wouldn't have been close.

We had two hit the same gap and Lt take his gap but not setting the edge.

But he was put in tough positions way too often than a corner should because we let them easily get the edge all night
Linebackers seem to be an issue here for sure. But my goodness, 1 can’t keep getting sucked inside on these outside runs, leaving literally nobody out there to turn anybody back inside.

How can he be comfortable continuously losing leverage that significantly knowing he’s the last help towards the boundary?

For the life of me, I don't understand how/why this is an issue week after week after week. Setting the edge and not losing contain is one of the most basic things you learn as a JV football player and our guys just cannot seem to get it.

I don't know if it's the coaching or it's the players. Regardless, it keeps happening repeatedly every game. So frustrating.

I will say this, if we are not setting the edge against Vanderbilt, then the only possible reason is, they are being coached to crash the corners and not even remotely pay attention to the edge. Which also puts our inside linebackers at a really huge disadvantage.
