If buying and retaining 5-stars means begging regular people to give $1,000+ a year on top of season tickets and/or just paying for games and things then I'm fine with the trade off of not fishing in that pond anymore.

Pushing working class people in a state like Alabama to pony up to pay salaries for football players at the expense of other things in their families lives is gross.

He isn't forcing anyone to do this.

It's pretty simple as you explained it. People just have to get used to the new way of how things are.

I have brought up how the B1G manipulated this CFP process to ensure they made most of the home games in their states, ensured they had the most spots, etc... and people think it's crazy conspiracy when the reality is this is all about money.

We know this is an arms race about money yet Sankey signs us to a weaker TV deal, he plays to Texas which hurts the league and he gets outplayed in this CFP ordeal. Our commissioner has harmed us and other original SEC programs significantly.

We're really fighting for our futures right now even if people don't realize it. I think it's wrong to be critical of Byrne for him seeing the writing on the wall and giving us the best shot to succeed through it.

He needs to be asking his coach to do his damn job and bench players when they’re playing like shite. If NIL will just bring us more prima donna 5 stars, then I’m good with coachable 3 stars. Similar mindsets will take you further than raw talent alone.

I dont even know what this argument means. Is he putting a gun to peoples heads? Well no, that would be illegal, he can't force anyone to give money. That question wasn't whether I wanted him thrown in prison or fire him. The question was did I find his comments off-putting.

And yea, I see trying to bully fans already stretched to the limit by the cost of college sports in an era where the sport is making more than ever now also pay for the salaries of the athletes in these sports as extremely off-putting. Especially when it's phrased in a way that makes it sound as if we are going to fall into a black pit of despair if regulars joes that read his twitter and hear about it on the radio don't start pumping up the donations.

No, it wasn't a gun to the head. Yes, it was very off-putting.

Greg going hunting of expenses to cut.

LINK

“In the last three years, our food bill has gone up over $2 million a year,” Byrne said. “We’ve put some travel policies in place. We’ve done some different things from a food standpoint. We’re trying to push from a medical standpoint.”

Alabama reported spending just under $5.9 million on athlete meals across the department for FY 2023. That’s up from $775,044 in FY 2021.

Greg should cut Nick's salary.

Sounds like they need to get a new food supplier. They probably use Sysco that overcharges everyone.

1st thing they need to reconsider constantly building new facilities to impress these football recruits. Just us that money to purchase them.

Is there any time it’s a good look to ask for NIL?

From fans? No. Ask Mercedes, Golden Flake, Coca Cola, Tiffin Motorhomes, Conecuch Sausage, Bryant Bank, etc, etc.

My thought process is that I cant bitch and moan about us losing players to the portal if I don't donate to Yea Alabama.

Oh please. So you'd rather bitch and moan after giving your hard earned money only to see key players walk anyway and go to a higher bidder.

For myself, and many fans, we are approaching zero fricks to give.

Byrne wants an Alumnus, like myself, to be loyal and financially support the University.

That's why we have Tide Pride as well as the ability to contribute for facility upgrades. Not to put more dollars into a 19 year old millionaire's pocket only to have him shite on us and leave for a higher bidder anyway. frick that.

Don't whine on a stage where it's going to be picked up by national media, especially on the day when a current player seems to be extorting the program.

Actually, that's the best time to do it. Let the national media pick it up and run with the story that Alabama fans are in revolt. Byrne doesn't give a shite about us and certainly wouldn't be the one reading our emails. He needs to be humiliated in a big way on the national stage. THAT will get his attention.

I am to the point where I give zero fricks about what player stays and what player leaves and what player might come here.

Greg might want to go by the cafeteria late one night after it has closed. It appears he has more going out the back door than thru the registers.

This really reminds me of the current state of free agency in MLB where only 2-3 teams are really competing for the top guys because they can simply out-spend everyone else

I've been a Braves fan since they moved to Atlanta. At no time did the Braves GM hit up fans for donations from their own pockets to keep Freddie Freeman.

college athletics make them a net negative for all universities,

I wouldn't be surprised to see the lower to mid-level schools start dropping athletics altogether within the next decade. The Wake Forests, Bowling Greens and San Jose States of the world may just decide the game is too rich for their blood and cash in their chips.
