Jerrion Ealy will be on campus tomorrow.

Interesting. The dead period starts Wednesday.

No matter time or season, it's good to be Jackson Prep's Jerrion Ealy

quote:

FLOWOOD — On July 13, Jerrion Ealy sat in a room filled with trophies above a gymnasium at Jackson Prep. He had just finished a morning workout with his football team. In a few days, he would travel to Washington, D.C. for the MLB All-Star game. His senior year remained in the distance. A smile stretched across Ealy’s face.

“It's good to be Jerrion,” Jackson Prep football coach Ricky Black said.

A week later, former All-Star Tim Hudson threw Ealy batting practice. The next day, Ealy played baseball inside Wrigley Field during the Under Armour All-America game and hit an RBI single on national television. He’s one of three players ever to be named an Under Armour All-American in baseball and football. The other two are Kyler Murray and AJ Brown.

On the football field last season, Ealy totaled 2,762 all-purpose yards and 40 touchdowns as Jackson Prep won its sixth-straight state championship. A few months later, he batted .364 on the baseball diamond.

247Sports labeled Ealy the third-best senior running back in the country. Perfect Game ranked him as the fourth-best baseball player in the class of 2019. An MLB team will probably select him in the first round of next year’s draft.

“He is maybe the best athlete I’ve seen in my 30 years of scouting baseball,” Perfect Game national scouting director David Rawnsley said in a video on Twitter. “I like comparing him to Andrew McCutchen, former National League Most Valuable Player, but I really think Jerrion has better tools.”

Potential distractions follow Ealy’s status as a top prospect in two sports. MLB scouts come to his games. College football coaches call often. He follows a demanding, endless travel baseball schedule during the summer. His potential could be ruined by all the attention, so he only responds to calls from 6-8 p.m.

“If I'm on a phone call with somebody and it hits 8 o'clock, I say, 'Hey coach, I got to go,'” Ealy said. “I got to go enjoy being in high school before anything else. If you don't enjoy the days you have now, tomorrow's not promised. Therefore, you have to live every day to the fullest, so that's what I do.”

At some point, Ealy might have to decide between baseball and football. Only a handful of athletes have played both sports professionally at the same time. He likes baseball. He loves football. But Ealy doesn't have to decide anything yet. He verbally committed to play both sports at Ole Miss. The MLB Draft won't happen for almost a year.

Right now, Ealy can enjoy the final moments of high school — from pep rallies to Friday nights under the lights to parties to prom. He understands this period of his life is precious, so he wants to enjoy it as much as he can. After all, he's still in high school, though his life may not seem like it sometimes.

“I'm just living my best life, enjoying being with my friends and family and my coaches,” Ealy said. “Can't get any better.”

... Naturally, Booth, Vonta Bentley, Joe Ngata and Etinosa Reuben have garnered the headlines since the weekend, but Clemson advanced its standing with 5-star offensive lineman  Clay Webb as well. Clemson247 reported on Thursday evening that he'd be making the trek with his mom.

I think it's fair to frame Clemson and Alabama as the frontrunners, although Georgia and Auburn are certainly in the mix and could pull rank over time. A decision isn't expected until after some officials this fall, and I think the longer this recruitment goes the better for Clemson.

What worked in Clemson's favor was the Tigers' ability to attack this recruitment from a pretty under-the-radar position. That's not really the case now after Webb camped at Clemson and elected to return for the All-In Cookout, but it stood true this spring when everybody had already penciled him in as an Alabama commitment.

Mom is a huge fan of Clemson. And sometimes that's all you need to win a recruiting battle. Todd Bates doesn't hurt, either. Talk about a job this guy has been doing on the recruiting trail. Wow...

LINK ]Bama gains momentum for RB Trey Sanders (BamaOnLine - Swamp247 article)

quote:

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star running back Trey Sanders originally gave his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide back on April 16, 2016. That pledge to Alabama stood for nearly two years before Sanders de-committed from the Crimson Tide on January 1, 2018 in order to go through the recruiting process fully.

In February and March, the Miami Hurricanes started to make a run at Sanders after getting he and his mother on campus. During the month of April, it was the Florida Gators that started to surge for Sanders after UF took his older brother, Umstead, as a preferred walk-on.

However, by the time May rolled back around, the rumors of Alabama once again gaining control of Sanders’ recruitment began to trickle out. During IMG Academy’s spring game in late May, there were reports suggesting the Crimson Tide’s coaching staff was confident they could add Sanders to their commitment list eventually.

At The Opening Finals in early July, the buzz surrounding Sanders to Alabama began to grow even more, which caused a flurry of Crimson Tide predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for the talented back. Later that month, during IMG Academy’s media day, the general feeling was Sanders to Alabama likely happens, which caused more Crimson Tide predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for the five-star.

“It’s been like text me every day, call me every day," Sanders recently said of Alabama's constant pursuit of his pledge. "I talk to Coach [Mike] Locksley about twice a week, and we’ve built a great relationship over time."

As it stands now, Alabama owns 79 percent of the predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Sanders. Florida comes in next with 17 percent of the picks, while Miami still holds four percent.

The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Sanders as the nation’s No. 8 overall prospect and the No. 1 running back in the 2019 recruiting class.

I need to see C. Harris, Trey Sanders, Daxton Hill and Siaka Ika commit by the end of August. Which one of you wants to get on that?

So if we take Harris does that mean....nvm I'd take him and the guy we have committed and be happy.

Imo, it's a smart move to take Christian Harris now. I think Harris fits very well at ILB and can contribute early. I do like our chances of getting Nakobe Dean, but due to Cowan's departure, we really should take a 3rd ILB, and Harris would ensure that we've got at least two good ILBs on board. Dean has said he's unconcerned about competing for playing time, so taking Harris shouldn't hurt our chances with Dean.

To'oto'o might arguably be better (due to his experience playing ILB) than Harris, but he has the top PAC12 schools after him too and says he probably wont sign until February. I think it'd be harder to land him if/after Dean gets on board in Dec. But if we missed on Dean the timing would be good to then push hard for To'oto'o and our chances of landing him would seem to be better.

Any particular reason why? Not criticizing, just curious why he impresses you more than Dean or To'oto'o.

Fap worthy. Though, I lean toward Sophsher and Tuitele over Ika, as I think Ika might be limited to situational NT. He has too much bad weight, but IF he can drop 25-30 lbs, he'd be more versatile.
