LINK ]Get to know 5-star recruit Trey Sanders, the nation's top RB (247Sports)

Growing up, Trey Sanders found inspiration in Tavon Austin. You might know Austin as the dynamic 2013 first-round receiver out of West Virginia, now with the Dallas Cowboys, but back in high school in Baltimore, Austin played running back in a jitterbug way that spoke to Sanders.
“The thing I liked about Tavon Austin, he was shifty and once he got to open space it was like he knew he was going to score,” Sanders said. “Make somebody miss and do something spectacular and score.” That style of play has been Sanders’ M-O on the prep level.
Preparing for his third season at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, the 5-foot-11, 216-pound Sanders is much bigger than Austin, but at times looks just as elusive. He flashes the same kind of dominance as the former West Virginia star and we’ve seen it time and again on the national stage with the schedule the Ascenders play.

Not only is Sanders the No. 1 running back in the 247Sports Composite, he’s the No. 7 prospect overall. He only got 76 carries last fall sharing the backfield with two other blue-chip running backs, Oklahoma signee T.J. Pledger and 2019 classmate Noah Cain. That’s all Sanders needed to show his unique ability and brilliance in ripping off 704 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Pledger and Cain are studs, but Sanders is the home run hitter, the difference-maker who scored in eight of nine games and was vital in the first three wins of the season over Chandler (Ariz.) High, Corona (Calif.) Centennial and Miami (Fla.) Central, coming through with long-distance treks to the end zone.
“He broke a couple tight games open out of nowhere,” IMG coach Kevin Wright said. “Tight games we were barely hanging on in, he breaks off long runs and puts the game out of reach. We were really getting stoned at the line of scrimmage and he definitely made some plays that turned the tide of games last year.”
Sanders comes from a “happy, close-knit family.” But when the opportunity to leave home and play at IMG Academy presented itself following a freshman season at tiny Port St. Joe where he helped lead the 1-A program to a state championship game, Sanders jumped on it.

“Growing up I wanted to be the No. 1 running back, be the top player in the country,” Sanders said. He was dominant in his one year representing his hometown, averaging 11 yards per carry in gaining 1,063 yards en route to 12 touchdowns with another three receiving scores, while shining on defense with 59 tackles, 12 passes defended and four interceptions. There was also one kick return for six and another pick six.
“To this point it still seems surreal,” Sanders said. “Where I come from people don’t get that. You probably get a D-3 school, maybe even that. Just to be able to blow up and get the opportunity to go to IMG, it’s a blessing every morning to wake up and have that.”
Safety Calvin Pryor, who the Jets selected with their first-round pick out of Louisville in the 2014 NFL Draft, is one of the few notable athletic alumni to come from Port St. Joe. Sanders was to be next and he loves coming home over breaks from school. He feels even better about his time at home when his older brother Umstead Sanders is around.
The elder Sanders keeps Trey “humble,” making sure he carries himself like he’s the last-ranked football player in the country. A JUCO linebacker product trying to figure out his future (Florida and Alabama are contenders) just the same as Trey is, Umstead says his brother helps him keep it light. “He puts a smile on everybody’s face,” Umstead said. “It’ fun when we get together. It’s all good vibes all the time.”

The two credit their dad for their easy-going personalities, but strap on the helmet and they’re intense when taking reps. “He’s a ‘yes sir, no sir’ kid,” Wright said. “He usually has a smile on his face. He’s not a guy that hangs his head much. He works hard in practice. That’s infectious for the group around him. They appreciate how hard he works in practice.”
The Sanders brothers enjoyed playing together in that run to the state championship game in 2015. Umstead knew his brother was fast but certainly didn’t know he was living under the same roof as arguably the top player in the country. “It was like he was holding in everything when he took the field that freshman year and then let it all out,” Umstead said.
Those guys watched other prospects tape from Derrick Henry to Najee Harris and Trey didn’t seem that far off from those former five-stars. “We grew up watching other No. 1 running backs,” Umstead said. “We watched them growing up saying it’s cool to see these people are No. 1 never really thinking and then out of nowhere he blew up and became No. 1 so quick.
“Trey isn’t going to let you hit him,” Umstead continued. “He’s going to find any kind of way for you not to hit him. He’s very good at making people miss. If you watch his film, nobody is getting a good hit on him.”

Several coaches started calling during and after that freshman season at Port St. Joe. Jimbo Fisher and company at Florida State were the first to completely buy into Sanders film and offer.
“I still think about that day,” Sanders said. “We woke up, me and my dad went up there to talk to him face to face. We really were just talking, he said he was going to watch me over the years in high school and I didn’t think I was going to get an offer. Then when it came down to it he told me he was offering me. My dad grew up a Florida State fan, of course that made him happy. It was a real proud moment for me and my family.”
Many more days like that followed and by April of 2016 Sanders thought he was ready to commit, choosing Alabama over the Seminoles, Florida and Georgia among others. Nick Saban had only offered a few weeks earlier.
Sanders still took visits following that verbal and after thinking long and hard about it reopened the process on New Year’s Day of this year. “You only get to go through this process one time and I wanted to take my time and evaluate everything,” Sanders said. “It’s way bigger than football.”
Sanders knows what he’s looking for. “The school to pretty much set me up to get better in life, to better me as a young black man in America,” he said. “For me growing up as a young black man you have a lot of obstacles. I want coaches to understand that and teach me how to be better in the world and how to live better.”

Trey says hat he has great relationships with a lot of schools, but seems to have narrowed it down to a few powerhouse programs: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Miami.
Sanders is fresh off his first visit to the Alabama campus since decommitting. “It’s amazing,” he said of Tuscaloosa. “It was weird at first, but I still got that feeling. Alabama is a special place.”
He’s been to the other schools this spring as well.
On Florida: “My mom grew up a Florida fan. I had to watch Florida and when they won the National Championship I was a big fan of Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps. The new staff is amazing. I’ve been up a couple times because of them. I like the way Coach (Dan) Mullen runs things.”
On Florida State: “I feel like Coach (Willie) Taggart is going to something special.”
On Georgia: “The history of running backs at Georgia, it doesn’t get much better than that.”
On Miami: “They have something special going right now. They’re hot right now.”

3* LB Umstead Sanders 6-2/240 (Juco/FL) hudl
Per sauces Sanders is currently undecided about Bama's recent PWO offer. Behind starting ILBs Mac Wilson and Dylan Moses Bama is short on depth, especially with any playing experience. Umstead is visiting Florida this weekend. His enrollment date if he sticks with UF is June 28. Per UA's registrar office, the last day to add/drop a course for the Summer II session is July 6.

LINK ]The latest on LSU’s push for 4-star John Emery and an upcoming decision (SEC Country - LSU)

Strap in for what could be a bumpy ride.
John Emery, Louisiana’s top-ranked running back in the Class of 2019, is making the rounds for some final unofficial visits ahead of July 7. Multiple sources close to Emery have confirmed that will be the date he announces his decision.
The 4-star tailback attended Mississippi State’s spring game in April. He visited LSU at the beginning of May, then made his way back to Georgia. Emery was back at Mississippi State’s elite junior day last weekend before releasing a cryptic tweet that a decision could be on the way. Another source informed SEC Country that Emery is in line to make his first unofficial visit to Alabama this weekend.

So, where do things stand?
Sources on the LSU side were confident in the team’s chances of keeping Emery in-state as recently as early this week. In fact, I can say that members of the LSU coaching staff believe that when Emery signs his national letter of intent in December, it will be with the Tigers. That leaves the door open for the elite running back to commit elsewhere next month.
There’s a growing confidence at Mississippi State that Emery will commit to the Bulldogs in July. According to a source familiar with Emery’s recruitment, it will not be due to his girlfriend potentially transferring there, but because the Destrehan (La.) High School star is doing careful research about his fit in the offense and stability of the coaching staff. Mississippi State likes Emery in a role comparable to that of recent first-round pick Saquon Barkley at Penn State. That thought moved the needle during Emery’s recent trip to Starkville.
LSU running backs coach Tommie Robinson discussed a similar role with the Tigers, which Emery said last month opened his eyes to a fit at the in-state power. Robinson, along with coaches from Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Southern California — among others — were also in attendance for Emery’s spring game last month.

Emery will make his way to Alabama this weekend, and it is very possible Nick Saban could make a push for the elite Louisiana prospect, per a source. Don’t discount the Tide just yet.
Emery is also expected back in Baton Rouge before his July announcement. That will give Robinson, area recruiter Mickey Joseph and coach Ed Orgeron another chance. LSU is one of a handful of schools to have Emery on campus twice since January along with Georgia and Mississippi State.
I have held a Crystal Ball pick in Emery to wind up at LSU since this time a year ago when he made a string of visits up I-10 West to Baton Rouge during his junior year. I felt good about that pick up until last weekend’s trip to State. For now, the outlook is cloudy, but I’m leaning toward the 4-star back to pick an out-of-state schools on July 7.
However, this recruitment is shaping up to model that of Ja’Marr Chase in the 2018 class. Chase picked Kansas, then nearly committed to TCU last July, and settled on Florida later in the summer. Eventually, the 4-star receiver settled on LSU on National Signing Day in February.
Expect Emery’s recruitment to follow a similar trend from July through December when the elite running back plans on finalizing his plans.
