So, um, I just received an interesting text message from my mother.
Apparently my stepdad was engaged to Pete Golding's mom before he met mine.
Granted, this was over a decade ago, but it's still funny to me.

I wish.
Like I said, this was at least 12 years ago, because that's when he married my mom.

Little bit unrelated but on NFL network today josh Rosen was on and they asked him about going #1. He brought up being #2 in HS behind Ricky Towns and then Blake Barnett. Ended off by saying he hasn't heard much about him (referring to Barnett) all I could think was damn.

Which players could commit to Alabama by the end of April?

Alabama finished seventh in the 2018 class recruiting rankings, but expect the Crimson Tide to be back on top in 2019. SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner will answer the Recruiting Question of the Day each weekday. You can ask him your questions on Twitter or on Facebook. Find our previous questions and answers here.
Who are the most likely players to commit before the end of April?
From @Jays_in_closet
April has been a fantastic month for Alabama recruiting. The Crimson Tide have received eight commitments this month, and may not be done. Including Tuesday, we still have seven days left in April, and more commitments could be announced before May 1.

I think Tide fans should closely watch three players in these next few days.
Amari Kight, a 4-star tackle from Thompson High School (Alabaster, Ala.), has been on commitment watch since Saturday. I thought there was a good chance he could commit to the Tide while in town for A-Day. I’d say he commits sooner rather than later. His teammate, Taulia Tagovailoa, committed to the Tide on Saturday.
DJ Dale, a 3-star defensive tackle from Clay-Chalkville High School (Pinson, Ala.), told SEC Country that he was going to make his decision in the next couple of weeks. I don’t think his recruitment is going to extend much longer. Some fans have asked me where Dale stands on the board for the Tide with other higher-ranked defensive tackles out there. I can say that if he does choose the Tide, his commitment would be accepted.
Then there’s Jayson Jones, a 5-star 2020 defensive tackle from Calera (Ala.) High School. Jones caused a stir on social media Saturday when he tweeted that a decision could be coming sooner than July 4, which is his scheduled commitment date. He then tweeted an apology and said he was sticking with his original July 4 date. Still, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him commit before July 4.
And, as a bonus, the Tide should start the month of May nicely. Kevin Harris, a 4-star linebacker prospect from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.), is scheduled to announce his decision on May 1. Alabama is in excellent shape to land Harris’ commitment.

Is it me or does there seem to a bumper crop of in-state players this year?

It is very good this year. I kind of have mixed feelings on a couple of the top in-state guys, namely Vonta Bentley and Mohamoud Diabate. I'd like to see them at Bama, but apparently the staff likes some other targets better and their chances of landing them. I defer to Saban & Co.

I want the absolute best we can get but its always good to keep the state of Alabama locked up. Screws over another school we compete with in-state.

I work with someone whose son plays for Thompson. I don’t know how reliable they are, but based off what they said he doesn’t know where he wants to go yet at least publically. Could be waiting a little bit for him. Hope they’re wrong and he commits soon.

Yep. That's why I said I have mixed feelings about those two in-state LBs -- Bentley and Diabate.
Shane Lee, King Mwikuta, Nakobe Dean, Kevin Harris and Christian Harris all appear to be better than them. So, it's actually better to get those LBs instead of letting them wind up at LSU, AU, UGA, ATM, MSU, etc.
I'm sure glad we've got Saban and the excellent staff he's put together handling all those tough decisions and the tough business of landing the best ones they can.

Recent Alabama commit plans on taking all 5 visits, but there’s no reason to be concerned
Christian Williams committed to Bama last week.

Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. Today, we talk the latest with and why one of the state’s top players in the 2020 class committed so early.
Christian Williams keeping his options open?
Christian Williams was planning on committing on National Signing Day next February. He instead committed on April 16 at a track meet. Williams said after talking with his parents, he felt like there was no reason to wait because he knew Alabama was the school he wanted to attend.
“I really just wanted to secure a spot and go ahead and focus on my senior year and getting better,” Williams told SEC Country.
Williams has wanted to go to Alabama since he was a child, but he hasn’t 100 percent shut the door yet on his recruitment. He’s planning on taking all five of his official visits, which means he’s not locked in with the Tide.

“I don’t know where I’m going yet, but I’m not going to cut that off,” Williams said. “I haven’t talked to the [Alabama] coaches about it yet, but my parents didn’t go with me to see LSU, so I know we’re going to back there for sure.”
When asked if the Tide coaches told him he couldn’t take those official visits would he, Williams said he would and that he only gets this opportunity to be a recruit once. Outside of LSU, he’s also hoping to visit Oregon.
Still, there shouldn’t be too much worry from the Tide faithful about the strength of the 6-foot-1, 186-pound prospect’s commitment.
This isn’t a situation about being scared off by the depth chart. Williams said he’s confident in his abilities that make him believe he would have a chance to contribute when he gets to Tuscaloosa. Williams has the versatility to play corner or safety at the next level, so there’s a possibility that he could see the field as a freshman.
So other teams negatively recruiting against the Tide’s depth chart will go in one ear and out of the other. Is there anything that could possibly have the nation’s No. 9 cornerback in the 2019 class not sign with the Tide?
“There’s not really anything that can change my mind,” Williams said.

Dazalin Worsham explains his commitment to Alabama
Dazalin Worsham committed to Alabama last Thursday, but the plan to do so was in the works for quite some time. Worsham visited other schools such as Auburn, Clemson and Tennessee, but he couldn’t turn down the chance to play for his dream school.
“Just after evaluating all the other schools I was considering, Bama was the place to be,” Worsham told SEC Country. “The way they use wide receivers fits me perfectly, and Coach Gattis is the best wide receivers coach in the country. It’s home and I can get ahead and learn the system over the next couple of years in high school. I’ve liked them for as long as I can remember. Growing up, all of my family were Bama fans, and that was the team to watch.”

Worsham became the Tide’s third commitment in the 2020 class, joining 4-star cornerback Javier Morton and 4-star linebacker Jackson Bratton. He also becomes the third Hewitt-Trussville High School (Trussville, Ala.) player to commit to the Tide. Quarterback Paul Tyson and offensive tackle Pierce Quick are the leaders of the Tide’s 2019 class and have been recruiting Worsham to join them.

Part of the reason for Worsham’s early commitment is so he doesn’t have to hear Tyson and Quick constantly ask him about when he’s going to commit.
“Honestly, I wasn’t going to let them bug me about it,” said Worsham, laughing. “But now that we are all on the same page, it’s great. It’s definitely a plus that they are also committed to Alabama.”
Another big reason why Worsham committed to the Tide is because of Gattis. Worsham has developed a strong relationship with the new assistant since he arrived in Tuscaloosa earlier this year.
“He can teach me everything about the game,” Worsham said. “The way he coaches up the wide receivers in meetings and demands that everything is the best that it can be, makes me believe he’s the best wide receivers coach. He’s also a great person and family guy. I’ve already learned to use my head on cuts and a lot of great stuff on releases and route running.”
There’s a long way to go until Worsham can sign with Alabama, and in today’s recruiting climate, lots of early commitments end up not sticking. It sounds like Worsham’s recruitment is over, and, just like Tyson and Quick, he, too, plans on being a leader in his class.
“I’ve been everywhere and seen everything I’ve wanted to. I’m done,” Worsham said. “Once I find out who the guys [Alabama] wants, I’m going to recruit them.”

Dale will lose the weight with coach Cochran. Has got some nice film as well. Hell Daron Payne at one point was around 340 wasn't he?
